I have seen dozens of penalty kick shoot outs in my life. Some actually mattered based on the teams I cared about. Fun was NEVER a word I used regarding them. Mostly if it is a situation that I don't care about, I turn it off. If I care, I watch but fun would never be a word I would choose to use to describe them.
They should just flip a coin before the game to decide who wins in a tie - don't tell the players which side won the toss.
The 2004 Eastern Conference final ended in PKs after OT. The perfect capstone to a gripping match. I still can see in my mind's eye Nick Rimando running and jumping after he saved Dempsey's PK attempt. Memories.
Leagues Cup should be bold and take it a step further next year: bring back the far superior 35-yard shootout for the tiebreaker!
Kevin Paredes with a good shot on goal vs Guinea at the Olympics. Griffin Yow also starting. Both former DC United players up from their youth system. What other MLS team has two players starting in the Olympics?
I was reading a story yesterday about how Loudoun has those two US players and a New Zealand player and a video person who is doing work for the women's side. https://www.cbssports.com/olympics/...ect-on-usa-soccer-at-the-2024-paris-olympics/
Don’t know but what would be funny is if at an interview they credited their development to Chad Ashton.
I miss Paredes and I wish we had this Yow when he was here (likely more DC than Yow's fault but regardless).
I saw the link to this article in a different forum. Yow admits to not working as hard as he could have, but also DC did not have much of a development plan for him, at the same time: http://americansoccernow.com/articl...excited-to-see-his-career-take-off-in-belgium
I used to love him raiding down the left side, right in front of us every game. Flat out most exciting player we’ve had outside of Rooney over the last decade. Arriola was a similar brand of chaos, but we never got to see him up close like Paredes. He had the fastest feet I’ve seen.
In other news, USA U-20 plays Panama in the CONCACAF U-20 Tournament on Friday. Both teams plus Mexico and Cuba (the other QF winners) automatically qualify for the FIFA U-20 WC.
I feel like that was a more of what he was being told to do and realized what he should have been doing once he got to a real club. There's no way anyone was dogging it on Ben's watch. I don't think I can be convinced that someone coasted for any period of time on his watch.
I am sorry to be so late to the table on this but how can MLS claim to be against racism and inclusive without a statement on the video of the Argentina Men's National Team's racist and transphobic chanting after winning the Copa America. Oh right, Messi owns the league so $$$...
