panithankos vs arsenal the goalkeeper comes out to do a clearence header, the ball falls to gonzales, what does he do? lobs him from 30 meters eat your heart out thierry henry. id like you to score like that!
Top class goal. Did the match finish 1-0 to spurs, all i seen was that and i've been away for a few days
I think it's important to distinguish between favorite goals and best goals. Most of my favorites, while were not the most beautiful, they were really important. Best goals: van Basten against USSR Beckham's goal against Wimbledon Roberto Carlos against France Roberto Carlos against Tenerife in 97 (almost from the corner flag) Favorite goals: Beckham's goal against Greece. The 93rd minute on Old Trafford... Beckham... Yes!!! He's done it! (c) Sheringham's goal in the final of CL in 99 Solskaer's goal in the same final Giggs's goal against Arsenal in 1999 Zidane's goal against Bayer
I enjoyed...... DAVID PLATT'S lovely volley in the 120th minute versus Belguim in Italia '90. MATT LE TISSIER chips a beauty in Southampton's 6-3 win v Man Utd. MATTY against Wimbledon, Magilton rolled him the ball, he flicked it up, and hit in the top corner- pure class. KEVIN KEEGAN - THE GOAL THAT NEVER WAS - Scored a sensational scissor kick volley for Southampton against Man Utd, tragically it was disallowed as David Armstrong was offside1 HAGI'S long ranger for Romania v Columbia during USA '94. CARLOS ALBERTO sealing a 4-1 win over Italy in 1970 still sends a shiver down my spine. MARADONA against England in '86 - why didn't Peter Reid or Terry Fenwick rugby tackle him?
Obviously I like the Forest goal just before it on the video, and besides I'd actually been having a quick look for a Stuart Ripley goal for Middlesbrough which might be a candidate for my favourite (and I've noticed it on Youtube before), plus whether I like this solo goal better than for example Savicevic vs Dresden from the same season I'm not really sure....but for today my favourite goal ever nomination can be Roy Wegerle for QPR vs Leeds in 90/91! In effect I'm at least picking out a lesser known great and entertaining goal of the past. Here it is at 5:11:
The Ripley one is at 5:58 on here (the following season's goal of the season competition; the Wegerle goal is confirmed as the winner for 90/91 at the start of the video): I'd say I like the Forest goal on there better than on the previous one too even, and the overall collection of goals is higher quality I think too. Here is an older one that could also be among my favourite Forest goals, and is kind of replicated by Merson in the 91/92 selection above - John Robertson vs Leeds (somehow I'm picking out various 'vs Leeds' goals today lol!) in 79/80 in the FA Cup: Gorgeous John Robertson curler as Forest win 4-1 at Leeds in the FA Cup 3rd round in 1980 #nffc @DTguardian @NottmForestNews pic.twitter.com/yRbpH57JVx— @forgottengoals (@forgottengoals) January 26, 2019 I'd put the Savicevic one I mentioned on my 'Goal vs Goal' thread before I think (also Cantona's, this time for Leeds, from the 91/92 collection), but since I mentioned it and this is a different thread I'll add that now too:
Since today is a new day, I'll restore the Ripley goal to being my favourite, rather than the Wegerle one! But I'd find it hard to pick out one favourite in truth. Two Forest goals I could add would be another chip, by Bohinen vs Tottenham in 94/95, and another team goal, being the breakaway one scored by Parker in the 1989 Simod Cup Final. Two goals that I particularly enjoyed and appreciated as something spectacularly good and unexpected when I first saw them happen would be the Van Basten Euro 88 Final volley, and the Bergkamp WC 98 goal vs Argentina. I see they already have a number of mentions earlier in the thread anyway.
I think even 600+ goals later this remains a top 10 goal in the career of Lionel Messi There aren't many chips ive seen personally that can compete from a technical perspective
I always like Di Maria's Rabona goal against AEK... You really have to watch the last replay to see what he did...
Rooney (Manchester United vs Manchester City, EPL 10/11) Zidane (France vs Norway, friendly 98') Cambiasso (Argentina vs Serbia&Montenegro, WC2006) Borgetti (Mexico vs Italy, WC2002)
@PDG1978 One of my 'forgotten' (I forgot it myself) favorite goals is this 'all Holland goal' in Real Madrid vs Barcelona of 25 april 2004 (round 34; 1-2 away win). Barcelona was suddenly revived after e.g. Davids arrived and Ronaldinho moved to the left in attack. It is this goal for the 1-1. The passing sequence is: Davids, Cocu, Kluivert, Cocu, Van Bronckhorst, Kluivert, goal (his last goal for Barcelona; his first was incidentally against Real Madrid as well). Salgado, perhaps and by reputation the best right-back in the world, missed Gio's run (who also scored in the Clasico in a season later after a passing sequence). Say, the Overmars goal against Liverpool, after a long passing sequence (Xavi assist), is way more famous. Kluivert had a bad campaign; Cocu and Gio were together with Xavi the players getting the most minutes. Those two had of course the advantage that they could play on a few different positions, as The Guardian preview of euro 2004 noted. "A successful season on loan at Barcelona has helped Van Bronckhorst recover his confidence, having struggled to establish himself at Arsenal. Set to stay at the Nou Camp on a long-term deal, Van Bronckhorst is adaptable and equally at home on the left side of defence or midfield." https://www.vi.nl/nieuws/tien-vragen-aan-giovanni-van-bronckhorst Pretty closely tied odds for the 'group of death' back then (Sweden also estimated - rightly - potentially tricky and dangerous for other teams): http://www.footballforums.net/threads/euro-2004-betting-odds.54587/ https://www.juventuz.com/threads/euro-2004-odds.6582/#post-424018
I never thought about a favorite goal, there are just too great goals to rank them. But the further back in time, the better I like them usually. This is Zoltan Czibor's fantastic goal in the 1961 European Cup final for Barcelona vs. Benfica. Modern players would struggle with the conditions they would face back then (shitty balls, shitty pitches, shitty gear and super-lenient referees).
