On a day when the FIFA president seriously proposes a revolutionary change in football, half of the posts on the front page are still about the MLS. This page made as well be called www.bigmls.com I didn't start posting here until after the World Cup, but I assume that during the Cup instead of discussing the games, most of the talk was still about MLS, probably predicting how many assists player X would have next year in the MLS.
Major League Soccer has just resumed play and people are excited about being able to talk about our league again in the present tense instead of the future. As far as Blatter's comments go, people here (for the most part) pretty much have come to see him as a joke when it comes to comments like this. It is being talked about, but not taken all that seriously. As someone who was on these boards for the last World Cup, and lurked during the previous one, I can tell you that the discussion did not center even remotely around MLS during that time...even though the league was playing simultaneously with the Cup.
So, you visit a website made mostly of Americans, and you complain that people want to talk about the American league? Makes sense to me.
Nothing, there are a lot of MLs fans on this boards and the MLS season is starting up while the Euro leagues are coming to a close. If you don't like MLS discussion, stick to the non-MLS boards. Besides, what can you say about Blatter except that he's nuts - end of discussion.
Am I wrong in that it was determined that Blatter was talking about going to PKs after a tie when it's a home-and-home series? and that he wasn't talking about going to PKs after every game that ends in a tie? At least that's what I thought I read.
Actually there's a substantive reason for referring to the MLS in that originally the league didn't allow ties, instead relying on overtimes and shootouts to force a decision. Thus when Blatter makes a suggestion that FIFA adopt something similar, it's only natural that people bring up the old MLS format for comparison, especially since the MLS shootout and (later) overtime format were pretty intensely debated. It's only this year that MLS has begun to allow ties as an outcome.
Ties as an outcome after 90 minutes. We've had ties since 2000, they just had to stand up through overtime. And I thought someone had to vet posts before they went on here.
Nope. He was saying all ties in all matches should be decided by PKs. Unless he's come out with some backtracking statement today. Blatter is a buffoon.
Only a fan of FC Hollywood could be this silly. Blatter = joke...I guess we are more sophisticated here. We understand that and don't give him the time and attention that the little boy craves. Last I noticed there were also plenty of world pages to go on. Go to the BBC or any other site if this bothers you, or like Sepp you, can whine and cry that not everyone is listening to you and doing things just like you want them because only you know better. Aufwiedersehen mein freund. Neues Meister ist? BREMEN!!!!!!!!!!!! Viel gluck und gute zeit fur alle in Bremen!!!!!
Not yours, the original one. Sorry. I should have made that clearer (and would have, with an edit function).
Well, considering that the International Football Board rejected most of Bladder's proposals (including the forced institutionalizing of the Golden Goal) to the unalterable (unless one operates in the nether regions out of the range of Zurich radar, like the A-League) Laws of Soccer (guess we have to give the Brits some credit after all, darn it) at the end of February, I don't think we need worry much about such malodorous musings. I like the Argie's euphemism for Bladder's latest discharge: "Euphoria" .
