I guess not . Although USD's Journalism and Mass Comm. department has produced Pat O'Brien, Tom Brokaw, and Al Neuharth (Founder of USA Today and Gannet News Services). Not a bad reputation.

Here's the Letter to the Editor I sent, hopefully it will get printed next week.

I am sorry, but I am at a loss for words in regards to Ms. Crosby's column in the latest issue of the Volante. Ms. Crosby essentially proposes that the Bill of Rights should be suspended during times of war. This may be the dumbest idea since someone wrote the script for "The Core".

This is the United States of America, where we have a right called Freedom of Speech, that hundreds of thousands of Americans have died defending. Would you like to tell all of those troops that, apparently, you (Ms. Crosby) don't think the freedoms they died for are worth it? I am a Republican, and I do support our President, and his efforts to remove an evil and totalitarian regime from power, but I also wholeheartedly support those who exercise their right to peaceful protest of the war. President Bush himself would even tell you that he supports Mr. Moore exercising his 1st amendment rights. While I don't agree with Mr. Moore's statements, and they may have been out of place, they are not propaganda material for Saddam, they show the Iraqi people that in our country you are free to speak out against the government, and not get shot. Something the Iraqi people are incapable of doing.

You say we should save face by holding our tongues, or we are nothing?? I think you should save face by apologizing to the thousands of brave soldiers who died for us that you apparently don't want one of our most essential rights. And while I am disappointed in the Volante for printing your article, I do support your right to say whatever you want. You may, however, in the future want to think about what you are proposing before you do so.

freedom is a richs man right

It is horrible writing, because consevatives do not value education (not for the masses anyway). They would rather un-do all social programs and public education and just have us grow up to be workers in their factories. Factories that would pay us in Bu$h bucks to be used and the company store, if they had their way....Education, in their minds, should only be reserved for the rich (kinda like freedom of speech), to play and chat among rich peers in ivy school they dont deserve to get into....

She also seems to think US troops were in Baghdad on the night of the Oscars watching the show.

First of all, this was a worldwide broadcast. It is likely that our American troops in Baghdad saw it. I wonder how it made them feel to hear someone say he thinks their commander in chief is a clown.

She wrote back, giving a def. of the word that kinda sorta applied.

Then I wrote her back saying if she was ever in Raleigh, I wanted to do her.

OK, I made up that last part.

If the repubilcans get their way, it soon will be, Think how happy all those companies would be to pay less the minimum wage, and get the national guard to kill any stikers. Although with the patriot act i am sure unions and striking will soon be a terrorist act.

You're right on all points. Man I get so sick of these capitalist pigs exploiting the working masses for their own ends. We've go to spread the word to the proletariat that Norman Thomas is the man in the next election. If Angela Davis would run as the VP we could win this country back for the masses.
A society free of exploitation and the strife it creates can be won by transferring ownership and control of the wealth created in production from a handful of billionaires to workers and the people.
