Not loving the starting back line for Canada vs Honduras. I have my doubts that Waterman is up for it.
Currently 5-0 in the 79th minute. Sigur, Saliba and Tani having great matches. Easy to see why Saliba is off to Anderlecht. Our press is causing them no shortage of problems and our technical ability on the ball has been fantastic. Promise David, a top 5 goal scorer in the Belgian Pro League this year, subs on in the 2nd half and scores. Imagine uttering that phrase 10 years ago. Our preperation can't be overrated here. Our games vs Ukraine and Ivory Coast last week were vital to get us ready. In previous years, there are no resources available for that level of preparation.
I thought so, our pool is underrated. Good things happens when they have access to opportunities to go pro. CPL will just accelerate and consolidated the process even faster
The big difference with our program right now is that after a period of success, dual nationals started choosing us and improving the strength and depth of our team. That never happened before. Of our 5 goal scorers last night, 2 or 3 of those guys would probably be playing for other countries if this was 15 years ago.
Concacaf Statement: Disciplinary investigation into the CSA and Jesse Marsch following Gold Cup incidents
Curacao got screwed! lol. Canada did not look sharp, that's for sure, especially after about 60 minute. Very dicey on D. But Curacao has been playing hard the two games so far. Been enjoying watching them.
Back to the topic "What is the problem with Canada?" The answer is: Canada has no problem as long as the STRONG support for them continues with the referees. The last time I saw such blatant favoritism toward any team was an Olympic basketball match where the USA played Russia quite a while back. But this was even worse. As long as this kind of favoritism continues Canada is very unlikely to lose as long as the team they are playing is not worlds better or they pay more in bribes than Canada.
I didn't know the CSA had money to bribe. Were those 2 goals called back not Offside? The Foul on the other one?
It's more that the head of the federation is from there. You don't need to bribe when everyone is afraid of making the big boss mad, even if he could care less about things at that level...
I only watch them when they play the US so no idea, just light-heartedly responding to "Canada has the money to bribe people..."
The OS looked incorrect. On all the angles I saw it looked at worst even at the moment the ball was played. And the advice, I believe, is benefit of the doubt goes to the attacker. The non-handling call get called all the time, too, in games. But I tend to agree with that call - hand was away from body but moving away from ball. But we've all seen PKs given for that as well. But I'd say the OS was too close to disallow.
It's so tough to tell from camera angles. Honestly it looked to close to tell and the call on the field was goal. I didn't think it was a clear or obvious error so I assumed the goal would count
Why isn't VAR being used? I don't blame Canada for using a largely 2nd choice 11 as the match was ideal to do so. When your head isn't in it from the start difficult to turn it on. Let's see what El Salvador brings. I still wouldn't trade Marsch for Poch.
I wasn't there and the camera didn't hold the line official the entire time, but it did not look like the flag ever went up. Been a minute since I took a ref course, but the advice used to be only to overturn the on-field call in case of clear error. Even the automated VAR showed it basically even, toe to shoulder, at worst. But they didn't ax me, so. Of all the minnows I've seen this Gold Cup I like how Curacao has been playing gritty and skilled. Holding out hope they pip Honduras.
El Salvador rolling back the decades to 80's CONCACAF shithousery as they were more interested in hacking than football. Good riddance. Good to see Curacao place ahead of them in Group B. Canada will go absolutely nowhere if they don't improve. No zip on the passing, pedestrian, labored.
Nah, El Salvador self-destructive play is good news for Canada. They didn't do that much running and it started to look like a practice session. The most important was to avoid injuries and save their energy. They'll be fresh against Guatemala with Eustaquio returning
