Lol of course not... David not signing in MLS for a chance to play the League Cup for more money while in his prime would be idiotic, got it
There's a delta. If David is offered US$5 million to play in Europe and US$12 million to play in Toronto it must be tempting. Percentage wise that would be equivalent of LAFC offering Benzema $261 million.
He'd still stay in Europe since he has the long term potential to be a great striker in a top league and earn more. Why risk that now by going to MLS
If MLS were offering Saudi money then yeah, we would get top Euro players playing here. That isn't going to happen ever. We'll see the current Canadians and Americans playing in MLS at some point but not while it their prime. Maybe if they are struggling to get minutes or a team in Europe we'll see them here.
92 goals in 194 matches for Lille. David just might net 100 by winter break. Gotta figure he's def done with France come January.
I'd say June. Teams will be reluctant to pay a fee for him when they can sign him for free at the end of the season. Plus with UEFA play not ending until the end of the January window, Lille might not want to sell him due to a group stage run.
It also comes down to valuations. We have no idea how realistic Lille were with their price when other clubs inquired. We also don’t know if David was interested in going to another team in France. It’s surprising he’s still at Lille, but not the worst thing in the world. I hope he goes to a stable club with his next move and not somewhere like Man Utd.
If Canada had won its longshot dual nats FW: Marmoush David MF: Cristante, Eustaquio, Kadioglu/Tajon/Shaff D: Davies, Bombito, Tomori, Johnston/Laryea GK: Bounou
Brings back memories of the dual national watch threads on the voyageurs forum following these guys over the years. At least Tomori played for Canada at the youth level before promptly bolting after getting an England youth call (hard to blame a kid who moved to England at age one and was playing with Chelsea). Marmoush has been quite the surprise, lighting up the Bundesliga.
The big thing with Tomori is with Canada he would be an every game lockdown starter whereas he barely gets any opportunities with England. He clearly preferred England but who knows if he would have made the same choice if he knew the disparity in opportunities that it’s ended up in.
Agreed. Who knows if he gets back in the England setup someday, either? A good counter example is Aidan Morris a few summers ago. Herdman was trying to recruit him for Canada for the Gold Cup. Despite not being a sure thing with the U.S, he believed in himself, stuck with the U.S and has had a rapid rise in his playing career since. You never know exactly how things are going to work out.
Yes.... and he almost ended up with my Swans! But, nothing really works out for Swansea, so...... he didn't.
They probably assumed he was a local with Davies being the most popular last name in Swansea (9.02%).
Watching Canada vs Panama in the 1st half. Canada with almost all of the possession. Panama staying compact. My PTSD from years of being a CMNT supporter always makes me shocked these days when other teams play us using a counter attack, although Mexico doing it last month against us felt even better. Panama foolishly trying to play through balls vs Moise Bambito. Even when the opposition player has a sizeable head start, he easily outruns every Panama attacker. He's such a weapon at CB.
Canada looked bad for a lot of the match but they have a way of looking bad and wining anyway. Also, as I have noticed on a LOT of matches in Canada, the field was horrible. I have seen better looking fields in high school soccer. There was almost a brawl at the end because both teams were behaving stupidly.
