Don't baseball's rules include something about sign-stealing itself being legal but the use of mechanical devices to do so being illegal? Might a similar standard work in soccer?
Yeah, in baseball sign stealing (guy standing at 2nd base relaying to the batter) is more un-written rule.
The IOC has a point though. Allowing the USA to go after violators of the law in international competitions where American athletes participate would set a precedent, and China, Russia, India, etc. would do the same. It'd be the end of the Games, since each country would be too scared that the others, if they can't win enough medals, could accuse their teams of cheating and just kidnap them from the facilities while awaiting trial.

Canada has the best player from North America today. BM offered Davies 14M Euros net a year, and he still refused to sign. We're looking at the first starter for RM from North America. https://en.as.com/soccer/bayern-munich-give-the-green-light-to-alphonso-davies-sale-n/
You said Davies was going to be the first North American starter for Real Madrid. Have you heard of Rafa Marquez? Huge Sanchez? FFS, Sanchez has 164 goals for Madrid in his career. He's a legend there.
Can I add to the beatdown? Chicharito also spent a season at Real Madrid. 2014/2015 If we want to make it the very narrow category of only US and Canada, then yes I guess that's right. I don't believe an American has played a game for either big Madrid club. Athletico is one of the clubs recently connected with Johnny Cardoso. Plenty of Mexican have played at Athletico too. Raul Jimenez and Hector Herrea are two that spring immediately to mind.
Marquez's entire career was at Barcelona. Sanchez - Yes! Damn that was over 30 years ago, I can't remember sh*t that long ago.
If you can't be bothered to know history, then don't make a historical claim. Knowing your posting history, I'm not shocked you made something up you clearly didn't know shit about and I'm not shocked you can't admit you're wrong.

Our backline now looks like: Johnston (Celtic) Cornelius (Marseille) Bombito (Nice) Davies (Bayern) Those club levels are a big improvement from a year ago. Obviously, club names don't mean anything if the players don't get regular playing time, so I'll be a bit cautious with my cheerleading until I see how the season shakes out for each of them. Joining a higher league and hardly playing is not the goal. However, joining a top 5 league is an important step for our players. John Herdman was pretty vocal about getting our players into top 5 leagues back in 2022, "What I've learned, and I said this right in my statistics when I took over, is that if you want to get out of the group stage, you need a minimum of six players playing at a tier one level – that's players playing in the top five leagues in the world, playing in the top five teams in those leagues. They're the only teams that get out of the group stage." He wasn't wrong. We now have the following players in top 5 leagues: Cornelius Kone Bombito Davies David Larin Buchanan Bair On top of that, I think Johnston at Celtic and Eustaquio at Porto both getting European minutes aren't far off the standard (depending on the season). We've made a ton of progress in the last few months. However, we really need a few more players to make the jump to top leagues in order for the program to be propelled forward. We just need another player or two to really emerge.
The challenge is how to put the pieces together to maximize results. And its not just being in big leagues, but how they're playing and performing as a group. Here's the starting XI by league of the US' group that faced Uruguay at the recent Copa America. Didn't play well Premier League Premier League Premier League Premier League Bundesliga Premier League Premier League (on loan from Bundesliga) Serie A Serie A Serie A Ligue 1 Part of the problem is that when you start getting to the elite level, a team like Uruguay doesn't just have midfielders in top 5 leagues. They're starting a central midfield of regulars at Real Madrid and PSG. Valverde and Ugarte. We're starting a guy from Bournemouth that we love in Adams, but isn't at that level. Canada of course is moving in the right direction. Gotta keep building and building. Developing talent and developing talent. Gotta keep developing depth. Quality depth.
I agree. Obviously there are steps to progression. We took one big step this summer with our transfers, but have many, many steps to go before becoming elite. The U.S is further along, no doubt. It's not just about what league these guys play in, but also what their role is for their club teams. How many players are "the guy" for their club team? How many are integral players? How many are squad players? Constantly injured? One of the issues I noticed with the U.S team this summer is that aside from Pulisic at Milan (who had a great year last year) and Jedi at Fulham, how many players on the pitch were "the guy" or close to it on a weekly basis?
BREAKING: Grasshopper Club is nearing a deal to sign Canada int'l midfielder Mathieu Choinière from CF Montréal, sources tell @GiveMeSport.Fee would be around $1m. Not 100% done yet.Choinière requested transfer this year after contract talks stalled https://t.co/Ylc8CKdYR8— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) August 14, 2024
Among their starters, Uruguay also fielded 3 from the Brasileirao, 1 from LigaMx, and 1 from Saudi. Also, Adams was at an elite enough level to get a transfer to Chelsea. The deal fell through because of injury. And he certainly wasn't 100% fit for the Uruguay match.
Chelsea literally buys every young player possible!!! They likely would have just loaned him out for a season or two to hopefully increase his value to sell him to another club for P&S compliance.
Adams wasn't a 'young player' in that sense. He had been a proven professional in the Prem. He a profile different to what you're referring to.
