Both. He was good enough to play for Montreal which would have helped his development but they wouldn't play him. His ego was too much as well, he thought he was way more ahead than he truly was. Barca B gave him opportunities including loans to Liga 2 Albacete. Definately a bit of both

So Larin is for sure a starter for Besiktas now right? I'm curious to see if he and Cavillini both start or whether one will take preference over the other.
For now he is. There were rumors that Besiktas was still planning to sell him but they'd have to be reconsidering now. My critic of Larin was that he was very uni-dimensional when he left MLS and it showed the 1st time in Turkey. When he went to Belgium, he expanded his game and became an excellent playmaker. Now, he's thriving in Turkey again as a winger. This gives Hurdman so many more options in the make up of a Canada starting XI. You now have 3 strong guys who can play LW : Davies, Hoilett and Larin. A few minutes ago...he can't stop scoring! Atiba Hutchinson ▶️ Valentin Rosier ▶️ Cyle Larin ⚽️ pic.twitter.com/VKkBCyEguj— Canada Soccer (@CanadaSoccerEN) November 6, 2020 Jonathan David To answer your question, I can see Herdman alternating between both Larin and Cavallini but it depends how he views Jonathan David and if he still wants him as a #9. Personally, if he's used as a #10 for Canada, we have easily one of the best midfield in the region with Arfield, Hutchinson, Eustaquio, Osorio, Piette and Kaye. What people need to understand about David is that he's a natural Attacking Midfielder first and foremost. While in Belgium, he happened to become a great striker. He still got into slumps from time to time but the coach was quick to move him back and forth to keep him going. Lille seems to want him to be a striker like Victor Osihmen. That's just not going to happen since David plays a very different type of football and Lille doesn't play the system maximizing David's strengths. He was never the guy who could dribble his way into the final third and bury it. As a striker, he reads the play perfectly, makes the right runs and is on point with his positioning while pressuring the defense. The game against AC Milan was his best game in France and by no coincidence. Galtier deployed the 4-2-3-1 for the 1st time and David was playing much better and served a brilliant pass. Lille as a whole is a much better team with David in the lineup and I think Galtier is starting to figure out how best to use him. Can't let his playmaking skills go to waste. Timothy Weah This will interest our USMNT friends. David should have scored yesterday - at least 2 times. The other issues at Lille is the very poor decision making at midfield by the other two Jonathans - Ikone & Bamba. Those F'ers are selfish M'Fers. They try to dribble with the ball and lose it or will shot at anything instead of looking to pass the ball. This has left David so many time perfectly unmarked and nothing happened but they try to pass him the ball (aka get rid of it) when he's marked. These 2 are massively contributing in the sabotage of Tim Weah because he had opportunities and those 2 simply choose to ignored him. That's unfortunate, rivalries aside - I never wish ill-fortune on a young player. With David having a much longer leash than Weah will ever have, he's the one paying for it.
I'd disagree with that, that was absolutely the right play to make and he read the situation perfectly.
Canadian weekend news France F Jonathan David played 24 minutes for Lille in a 3-2 loss to Brest. Lille sits 2nd overall behind PSG in the Champions League zone. This was their 1st loss since the beginning of the season. England LW Junior Hoilett played 77 minutes for Cardiff City in a 1-0 loss to Bristol City. He scored another this weekend against West Ham U23 and has been Man of the match 8 times in the last 10 games. There's hopes for a loan deal at the winter window. It will now be mandatory for all clubs to sign a minimum of 4 Internationals. Those players will have to come from or be approved by the league's centralized scouting agency run by 21st club. Canadian Soccer Association Nick Bontis has been elected the new president of Canada Soccer, taking over from Steven Reed. Bontis became a vice president when Reed was elected in 2017. He helped draft the CSA strategic plan that helped Canada turn around after 2014. We might see new ideas coming from him but I don't expect that he will "rock" the foundation of the CSA like Montagliani did in his tenure.
Still waiting for a CB that doesn't suck to emerge.....I thought Callum Montogemery might emerge this season. If we're going to get anywhere, we need an upgrade at the CB position.
Ziegler is presumably leaving from FCD after this season. So it'll be interesting to see if the job is handed over to Montgomery or if they bring in a new guy. FCD also has a young American named Justin Che who they're really high on, but he's a little too young. [FCD does have a history of drafting Canadians and then not developing them. Tesho Akindele was a success story.] What Canada is working on and just takes time, is depth. David, Davies, etc. are awesome. They can't do it by themselves. Just like Pulisic couldn't do it by himself for the US in 2018. This stat just came out showing the US is 10th in the world in terms of minutes given to U23s in top 5 leagues. If this chart was expanded to top 50, we'd see Canada as a significant mover up the charts. Entering the weekend, the US ranked 10th in U23 minutes in the big five European leagues. Toronto FC have two young, homegrown, strong CBs, who I think could step in and do the job in MLS and add to the CMNT depth chart. Unfortunately, that's easier said than done with a team like TFC....
