Cyle Larin is linked to Leeds in Championship. The team is currently 2nd overall at the time which would see them automatically promoted to Premier League if they can hold it or do better.

Another good player to watch for

21 years old Charles Andres Brym was born in France but eligible to represent Canada. The young forward is having great success in the reserve team of Lille in France.

He played for Canada this year in a friendly against Barbados snd scored his 1st international goal. He should be cap eventually and there's great hope he makes the 1st team at Lille in Ligue 1

I have missing from the site, for the most part, since the end of the last MLS season … so can anyone tell me of the chances of Canada sneaking into the hex under the current iteration of the rules?

El Salvador would need to lose their next pair of friendlies and Canada winning both. I think there was a last minute change where they could be playing Belize instead of Costa Rica while still playing Panama. If that's the case, than it's unlikely that Belize would lose and we wouldn't make the Hex

20 years ago, Canada defeated Mexico and Colombia to win their 1st Gold Cup*.
*They had previously won the 1985 CONCACAF Championship to qualify for the 1986 World Cup

With Alphonso Davies and Jonathan David, a repeat might be possible

I still remember that rainy Gold Cup Final.

I still believe that if Colombia would have kept all of their starters throughout the tournament they would have won that year.

But rules at the time made it so that some of the players had to go back to their club teams and they had to start some crappy benchers that had no business starting in that Final. Especially the Keeper Gomez who had to be the worst Colombian Keeper I have ever seen in my life.
(And I have seen a lot of Colombian games over the decades.)

Wouldn't be the same for the Canadian team?
    upload_2020-2-27_17-28-27.png
At that time Canada had no league, beating Mexico and Columbia back to back was still quite the accomplishment

Rules for Gold Cup teams of the CONCACAF were different than rules for the invited teams. Foreign Clubs cannot decline a continental tournament for a CONCACAF team in the Gold Cup.
An invited team at the time could have players play until their Clubs demanded them back.

It was quite an accomplishment. Not saying it was not.

That said, from the Colombian fan perspective the Final was a bit hollow since some starters who were important in the early stages of the tournament could not play the whole tournament. They had to go back to their clubs.

Canada now has MLS-level or better strength at all positions. Quite a turn around.

They appear to have multiple MLS-affiliated keepers.
