No it wasn't me... but I think it was Robbie Williams, yes FIFA 2000? It's Only Us - Wikipedia Not that big a fan so not really sure...
John Legend in Qatar... not a huge fan but got dragged into it nonetheless... Went out for milkshakes after the show, the night was legend-dairy....
Buddy Guy The guitarist in the middle (he walks on stage from the right) is Christone "Kingfish" Ingram; he opened for Buddy Guy.
Rob Jungklas This show was back in August; I'm actually listening to the CD (Rebel Souls) now and just came across this. EDIT: He had a couple of minor hits back in the 80s: "Make It Mean Something" and "Boystown".
Guns n' Roses in Abu Dhabi... wasn't going to go at first (need to fly from Qatar, book hotel rooms, shows aren't cheap in these parts, and have seen them like 4 times already on this tour) but my daughter had never been to a concert before and decided I wanted to be the one to giver her this 'rites of passage' as you may want to say. Also, when I realized she had a slight resemblance to a young Axl Rose, I decided this was a perfect time for cosplay. So glad we went, didn't realize that last time they played in AD, they had to cut the show short as Axl was ill so as some sort of "make up show", they played 3.5 hours with an extended setlist. Was also the first show of this leg of the tour and in 2023 I believe, so Axl sounded ultra-fresh. Unfortunately, I may have created a monster as now she wants to go see every show I want to go to. I've told her there's a once-a-year limit to anything we need to fly to.... but have Muse in Malaysia next month, and then Kiss in Dubai in October
BAND-MAID in Detroit, May 24, 2023 First concert for my son, good chance to see one of our favorite bands. We made it a family event because my wife came along as well. BAND-MAID is a 5-piece all female hard rock band from Japan. The theme are maids, based on the fact that the founder, Miku, used to work in a maid cafe in Tokyo and wanted to combine cool music with the maid experience.
Drove to Mt View, AR last weekend for Songs & Stories hosted by Keith Sykes, with Shawn Camp and Roger Cook. He performed many of these. The diversity is impressive. When he sang "Long Cool Woman", I think it was the first time I understood all the words. EDIT: I couldn't find any clips from the show, so...
Frankie Valli - You can tell he's pushing 90, but still sounds good - and of course all the hits... Ironically, the only clip I could find from last night's show is him singing a couple of tunes that weren't his.
Muse @ Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Honestly didn't even know if this was going to go on ahead as it was just right after the 1975 incident in KL (google it if u don't know) and a bunch of things started getting cancelled but fortunately went on head. It was short (like around 80 minutes) but sweet...
WEnt to Day In, Day Out Fest earlier this month. Saw Bon Iver, Nation of Language, Explosions in the Sky and Ethel Cain. Was fun.
Alice Hasen and Josh Threlkeld We caught this show last week; just now found this clip. Alice and Josh are a couple of local artists - I think I've posted Alice before; this was my first time hearing Josh.
The Sam Bush Band at the Mothership, Taos. Last saw Sam with "Strength In Numbers" 30 years ago. Thought he was a little sloppy then, the weakest link-- but when the others are Mark O'Connor, Jerry Douglas, Bela Fleck, and Edgar Meyer, it might be possible to live with the shame... Anyway, he has transcended that and is as exact as you could ask for now; about a third of the extended setlist was John Hartford material, but taken to places that John never would have. The two women who did stage and front sound, stage managed, and did instrument techwork were quite as good as the band-- who were excellent. I didn't catch either name but they deserve equal pay to everybody else there, and equal props. They did far more than keep the sound clean, they shaped it to fit the material, taking Sam's voice from Charlie Waller to George Harrison to Gene Clark to Hartford, and emphasizing the appropriate instrument at the appropriate time without simply turning the guy up. A+. My new favorite tech crew. (Replacing whoever did Heart's "Dog and Butterfly" tour-- incredibly loud without any post show tinnitus...)
Last concert? Echo and Bunnymen at First Avenue in Minneapolis. Opening band was Via Mardot, a world class theremin player! My friend from high school who I took to the concert (and also has a theremin) says she was the best theremist (if that's the correct term) he had ever seen. I have seen Echo and the Bunnymen in the 1980's in the 1990's in the 2000's in the 2010's and now in the 2020's. They're old...and so am I, I guess.
I saw them once, at the Fillmore in San Francisco circa 2001 or something like that. Think it was the Flowers tour, wouldn't mind seeing them again but I remember they were old then so they must be really old now...
I was shocked how good they looked, considering their actual age. It just occurred to me that Echo and the Bunnymen is NOT the most recent concert I attended. I saw The Damned in Chicago four days after seeing Echo and the Bunnymen. Now, you want to talk OLD, they are pushing 70, but looked and sounded better than they did 25 years ago. I imagine my expectations are somewhat diminished, as well.
Daniel Champagne. If he comes your way, I'd recommend checking him out. We've seen him four times now - will see him again.
