Someone on another thread posted that Bruce Springsteen was charging $64 and $94 for a stadium show, which didn't seem completely outrageous to me. That got me thinking of the first real concert that I ever went to. It had to have been in 1973 or '74. I saw James Taylor, Carole King, and Jo Mama at the Anaheim Convention Center. The tickets cost $4.50, $5.50 and $6.50!! We bought the $5.50 tickets, coz we just couldn't see spending six and a half bucks for one night's entertainment!!!
i don't want to say who i saw 'cause it's really embarrassing, but it was while i was in cub scouts and the tix cost 5.00 in 1990
I was really young and my parents dragged me to see Julio Iglesias, I don't know how much the tix cost. The first one I went to on my own was Metallica, the Justice tour, and the tix were $16.
311 Summer of 1994 Liberty Hall, Lawrence, Kansas $15 or so (don't remember the exact price, but less than $20) Kick ass show
I think my first was the Rolling Stones "Steels Wheels" (or something like that) tour in 1989. Foxboro Stadium.
Now the best show I've gone to was march 15 2001 at nation in dc to see reach the sky/lars frederiksen & the bastards/dropkick murphys and tix were 12.50, that was the first REALLY good one.
X-Fest, 1983, at Jack Murphy Stadium (now called Qualcomm Stadium): The Flirts Bow Wow Wow Modern English The Ramones The Stray Cats Tom Petty I think it was $15.
Ronnie James Dio/Megadeth/Savatage 1/29/88 @ the West Palm Beach Auditorium (which has since become a Jehovah's Witnesses HQ)...tickets were $18.00 with Bass Ticket Outlet SC, which was like $1. My oh my how things have changed.
1984, Notre Dame Convocation Center, Billy Joel (with a surprise visit from Christy Brinkley.) $12.50.
The Police - Synchronicity Tour, 1983. My sister paid for the tickets so I have no idea how much they cost.
Remember that dance that Joe did? Or when he screamed "FROM YOUR HEAD TO YOUR FIST!" right in my ear?
Live Aid, Philadelphia, 1985. $35, and that was considered outrageous even though the show included a Led Zep reunion, Mick Jagger, Tina Turner, Dylan, Petty, CSN, Neil Young, Madonna, Duran Duran (remember, this was the mid-80s), Sabbath reunion, Phil Collins, The Cars, The Thompson Twins, Beach Boys, Temptations, Four Tops, Hall & Oates, Bryan Adams, Judas Priest, Run DMC, etc. Oh yeah, the Hooters were there as well. They made the whole thing worth $35.
1983 Charlie Daniels Band w/ .38 Speical (stop laughing) @Augusta Richmond Co. Civic Center $8 1984 Van Halen w/ After the Fire @Augsusta Richmond Co. Civic Center $10 1984 Adam Ant w/ the Romantics atlanta Civic Center $12 1984-85 (New Years Eve) REM w/ Love Tractor & Guadalcanal Diary atlanta Civic Center $12 You can adust for inflation all you want, but today ticket prices are a rip.
English beat, '83 no way in hell I could remember how much. Hell, I saw Paul Weller two weeks ago and I can't remember how much I paid for tickets.
My first concert was around 1981 or 1982. Stevie Nix and Joe Walsh double-bill at the Byrne Arena (as it was known back in the day). I have no idea how much the ticket cost though because I was given the ticket in order to escort one of my parent's friend's daughter to the show. Regarding ticket prices, while the prices for big-name acts have gotten into the "stupid range", the inflation for small-name bands has been much flatter. I remember spending about $10 to see The Swans in NYC around 1986 and I spent about $17 to see Man Or AstroMan a little while ago. Compared to $100+ for classic rock dinosaurs, that's a rather mild increase. Murf
Bad Company, 94, 17 bucks. I thought I was the best, I was the first of my friends to be allowed to go to the Newport.
