I am not sure this is historically correct. Rossi only did US ODP for one year (IIRC) - his U-13 year. He was on the regional team but there is no national pool at this year. After that he was in Italy.
Interview on soccertimes.com is up. He are a couple tidbits. SoccerTimes: What are your career goals for the next few years? Bernardo: "Now that the season is over, I'm hoping for a chance to get invited into camp for the U.S U-17 team. It would be a real honor. It's a dream of mine to play for the team in a major competition. In the long run, I want to keep developing at Napoli and someday play for the first team in Serie A, but I have a lot to learn before that happens. Next year, I want to play every week and work my way up to the primavera (reserve) team and keep improving." SoccerTimes: If you were some day called up by both Italy and the US teams, which would you choose? Bernardo: "(Laughing) I somehow knew that question would come up! My heart is in America and my family is Italian. It would be a tough choice, but I think I would choose the U.S. I really want to see the game develop more in America and I want to help make that happen." I love that last part. Bravo Bernardo!
If I read the article right, he (Bernardo) has a US passport since he was born in New Jersey and played for St Bendict's prep).
So does Guesippi Rossi. It's not hard to have two, if your parents were born in the right place and you were born in a different place.
yeah, that´s good idea, Sandon.. from soccer into politics my father also worked in international politics, but he was involved in soccer issue in Bavaria as well...so both works ..maybe soccer players can be sometimes politicans..I would love it
Quite frankly, I'm surprised we haven't seen more former European soccer players running for office. I know George Weah tried to become president (or prime minister, I forget which) of Liberia but that's all I can think of off the top of my head. With their popularity in Europe, I would think this might happen more, though not many football players over there have much of an academic background so that might hurt them. Over here, not to many politicians with soccer ties. John Kerry, the US senator who ran against George Bush for president in 2004, was a college soccer player at Yale. Sue Casey, the mother of former Bundisliga player Conor Casey, ran for mayor of Denver a couple of years ago and was one of Kerry's political advisors. The son of current US senate majority leader Harry Reid played college soccer at UVa under Bruce Arena and won a couple of national championships, though he wasn't much of a pro prospect.
wow..thanks for this information....it is highly appreciated by me...I did not know this information.. by the way I have recommendation for the best german chancellor - it could be Kaiser..he has good reputation abroad, he showed his organisation talent during world cup (was supposed to be one of the best in the history), he has already leadership skills (Fifa, coaching job etc.)....and he has perfect name Kaiser....so good tip....hm...I would help him to organize campaign
I have good news.......... Yesterday i spoke to S.S.C Napoli 's youth syetem Director Giuseppe Santoro and he mentioned he got a fax yesterday from the USSF Inviting Vincenzo Bernardo to a U17 US national team camp in late June. I couldnt get more information out of Mr. Santoro since Napoli has the game of the season tomorrow and he travels with the first team aswell. I got a hold of Bernardo, but he does not want to comment on anything right now.
Bernardo scored at the U17 camp in jersey. I heard he played well that camp. so most likely we'll see him in a future camp coming up for the U17 world cup. I'm sure Hackworth is happy to hear that a european player wants the USA.
Gosh, pretty amazing that a simple fan of soccer living in Italy would get feedback like that. Those Italians must really follow soccer closely.
thank you for pointing that out..kind of seems as if you have to much of an inside source..so what is your affiliation with brenardo is a little to close to just be a spectator
Does it really matter? The kid's getting a look, which it can certainly be argued he deserves as one of very few American U17 professionals anywhere in the world. If Hackworth thinks he can help, great. If not, his career is far from over.
My good friend is one of S.S.C Napoli's scout/trainner. He tells me everything about Bernardo. He would know about how Bernardo does in America since Napoli has a scout in the states that prob kept an eye on Bernardo eachday in the camp. Then he would update the club and then my friend would tell me.
Bernardo was not in the line up for the U17 vs honduras. I dont think he was invited. thats strange since they were saying how good he was in the camp. Maybe they are looking at other players and bernardo is still in the radar. does anyone know the furture schedule for the U17's uptill the world cup
The U17's lost 2-1 vs honduras. The US goal was scored by a denfender. as so was one of the 2 goals in the first game. I think we might have a problem if our defenders are scoing more than our forwards. We have bernardo at home who scored 11 goals in 16 games in napoli and 1 goal in 2 games with the US when he was here. Why isnt bernardo wit them right now? and does he still have a chance for the world cup roster?
I am puzzled by this post. Given that most of the information passed around on this site is inaccurate gossip wouldn't you want to encourage this guy with reliable information to share it rather than mocking him
