So as a sign of protest for poor play, poor coaching, poor management, poor public relations (insert any other "poors" you like here _____), WHY DON'T WE START WEARING BLACK TO THE GAMES? No red/blue/yellow, just plain black. It could be a powerful statement that we're still there supporting the team, but that we're ready for REAL change, not lip service.
I'm also making the commitment not to buy new RSL stuff (including the ridiculously overpriced Xango jersey) until we see some change. You can even tell my wife that!
I'm not ready to boycott the games, because I like them (maybe I like to suffer?) and I still want to support the team. I can also make my voice heard better by showing up than by staying home-- I'd just be one more of the million or so Utahns who are disconnected (or never connected in the first place) with the team.
Other ideas to protest the direction this team is headed?

Thought of that, and thanks for the invite. I mean plain, no logo black.

If you are serious about it, I'd join in. However, while a love bigsoccer, only a very very very small percentage of the people at the game are on bigsoccer. Even if you got everyone here to agree, few would notice the difference. The word would need to get out in a different way. Here's a couple ideas:

    1. LTTE about the fans uniting to send a message to RSL. Get them to publish in the paper that if you want Ellinger fired, wear black. We haven't had much luck with LTTE, but since it is a negative message about RSL, maybe they'd actually publish this one.

    2. Instead of plain black, why not put something on the black shirts. A common "Fire Ellinger Now" message in white lettering on a black shirt would do. Others would get the idea and join in. Don't know if others are interested in ruining a shirt though.

    3. Print out a bunch of fliers to distribute right outside the gates. Get a couple of people at each gate before saturday's game to stand around and pass out fliers with the message to wear black in support of firing Ellinger. Fliers for about 4000 would likely get the message out enough. 'course at $.05/copy, you are looking at 200 bucks. That's a bit pricy.

    4. Talk to Donk, RSLFM, others about leveraging their sites to get the message out, they are on board with the idea and may be willing. I don't know what the traffic to those sites are, but every bit helps.

I like the whole pink slip idea.
Hand out 24 kajillion squares of pink paper sort of like the yellow and red card ones.

Not that I'm trying to encourage all this madness or anything, but you could always make the fliers smaller and print four to a page.

Maybe it might be better if we got everyone to write an email to the team. Maybe send it to spastorino@realsaltlake.com, since he seems to be the highest ranking guy they post an email address for. Say something like, Steve forward this to Dave! And then threaten all the things you have threatened. No more buying RSL stuff, be it shirts or tickets or whatever, until things change. I'd be willing to bet that if they got enough of those emails they'd change things.

I'm in for what ever. I don't know how much more I could leverage my site since it's already 100% dedicated to firing Ellinger, but whatever you need. Maybe I could get some shirts made up that refer to the site or something?
