Hey everyone, I had to go to a SF Dragons lacrosse game for work last weekend and I took the opportunity to compare how that team uses Kezar. The full text is on the 1906 Supporters site: http://www.1906supporters.com/2007/07/24/what-i-learned-from-some-dragons-at-kezar/ Some key points: - The Dragons found local owners to keep the team going after first season - They attract about 3000+ fans a game and its a professional atmosphere. - They found a way to sell beer at Kezar! Thanks to a beer garden just outside the stadium - The atmosphere however is better at Vics games thanks to the 1906. Come on you Vics!
Actually the Marin IJ article ran today as well. Here it is: http://www.marinij.com/sports/ci_6444504
deedougie Quality article and photos, deedo. Shows you how it can be done--they've got a nice little club going there. Shame it's the wrong sport. I like the idea of how club "members" or season ticket holders (or whatever) have the VIP area. I'm not really into stratification, but it seems somehow cool that people who are really into the club get special recognition. And oh how it hurts to see a beer garden so nicely laid out and no-one utilizing it! Even with a fifth of their total attendance we'd have it packed out -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "We will travel over land and sea Coz we are the famous Victor-ee!" --------------------------------------------------------------------------- "we don't care what the other team says wot the hell do we care, Coz we only know that there's gonna be a show And that Tottenham Hotspur will be there!"
A bit. Im a stringer there so I usually work Sunday and Monday and dont see him that much but he's a great guy to work with!
Actually I didn't discover the beer garden cause i was working until the end of the game and they were already starting to break it down. So I don't know how many fans were using it during the game.
What is this Bent and Berbs up top stuff? This is why we shouldn't have bought Bent. Keano and Berbs are a killer duo and should not be disrupted.
I went to that game and there wasn't a soul in the beer garden. I know because I went to go grab a beer, and there was no one else in there. I felt like some poor old desperate alcoholic sat there on my own.
Maybe a dumb question... but is it difficult/expensive to get a beer license to sell beer outside stadium? If not, it makes sense for Seals (probably impossible at Negoesco since it is on a college campus) and Victory to do something similar. GO VICTORY & SEALS!!!
Dave and I grew up together and he's one of my best friends. Despite the fact that he thinks soccer is boring he has gone out of his way at times to include related stories in the sports section. Most of his buddies played soccer growing up so i suspect he has a soft spot for the game.
What I meant to say was, Dave Allen contacted the Victory wanting to write a feature about the team, and had Dave Albee write this article.
I think that just goes to show the quality of the Marin IJ staff. No disrespect to the Examiner or Chronicle, but I think it was a better more indepth story about the Vics than either of those papers wrote.
