what happened to the NASL?

    But both Arnie Mausser and Alan Mayer started most of their NASL careers for their respective clubs and that was probaby why Bricic was not the USMNT starter in those days. I think he played at the Olympics of 1984 however, I don't remember that far back....maybe someone can post some links or stats? :)

    I wasn't talking about the USNT. I was speaking generally about the public perception of the aforementioned keepers back in those days. Messing was somewhat of a cult hero despite being a rather ordinary keeper. IMO, Mausser, Mayer, AND Brcic were all better.

    Also, Mayer was pushed to the bench, if I remeber correctly, by one Volkmar Gross in San Diego, and I believe Mausser suffered the same fate in Ft Lauderdale with Jan Van Beveren, but I may be mistaken. No shame in that, as both Gross and Van Beveren were top notch.
