Is it just me, or is this team missing a key element the '99 winners had, namely 1-2 passes. In the past few games, it seems like it's been all direct play and not enough creative chances like 1-2 passes to get by markers or ...faking to one side of the field and then passing in a cheeky through ball right down the middle. Maybe it's because they've been playing 4-2-4? But you'd think with 4 forwards, it'd be harder to get space in the final third so 1-2s would be the way to go, but instead we just dump the ball to the forwards' feet and they attempt to get by their marker 1 v 1. I'm afraid that in the world cup, this won't cut it. We might have to rely on set pieces again. I can't see how these direct, non-creative games we've been playing will get through the defenses of North Korea and Sweden. They're just too organized all over the field. Coach Ryan, can we please work on the creative aspects of the game? We've been playing some ugly soccer, even against weak teams like New Zealand and Finland.
