He was clearly limping after chasing a ball sent to the north corner flag in the second half. He then obviously aggravated the same injury after stoning Moreno a few minutes later. The problem appears to be with his leg. What's the story? Will he be available for our next game in two weeks?
countess Well... we were sitting right behind him and it looks like it all started on a misplace foot on a goal kick... thanks to the turf... I believe he screwed up his foot by just hitting it the wrong way... after that Morrow took the goal kicks... Then it looks like he slid into someone and that's how get got hurt the second time.... he was hurt for a good few minutes... it wasn't till he limped after the ball that it showed.... He was doing such a fantastic job!
He was looking good. He was so quick reacting that I was afraid he would overrun the ball a few times. His stop on Cobi was one of the highlights of the game. His power on punts was also amazing. Please don't let him be injured already!
Got this quote from Ed's cybersoccernews article "It's alright," Countess said. "Unfortunately, I took a goal kick and felt a little pop. I had some trouble running and I had to ask Steve [Morrow] to take the goal kick after that." http://www.cybersoccernews.com/mls/burn/030412dal-gal.shtml
No problem You never want to see a player get injured but the two GK's look interchangeable. No worries.
A quad pull was mentioned as well which is a little more worrying. I'm not so sure about the interchangeable part, but Cassar did save our bacon late with a nice reflex save on a very hard shot to the low corner.
keep us posted I've got my eyes on Countess this season. I think he is incredibly talented, but we all know that GK's don't get any respect until they reach late 20's. Please any Burn faithful, keep us informed about the injury.
MLS Confidential says partially torn quad, out 3-4 weeks. I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone as injury prone as poor Countess.
Well, possibly Adin Brown. But yes, Countess (who I though stayed relatively injury-free in college and his U19 days) has been snake-bit in his MLS career.
Can we still get M. Jordan back? I don't ever remmember him been injured, and I saw him almost get killed by Diallo once, and he even finished the game.
I also never saw Mattie pass it to one of our players with his feet. It seemed to always shank out. Matt's gone, he's in Europe. Let's move on.
Can I aslso say I was not a big fan of low-balling Matt Jordan to begin with, especially since we have cap room. I am inclined to say that the kid may be a bit fragile but kicking the ground and getting a hip flexor is still a bit flukey. All hail Cassar.
I remember someone on bigsoccer saying long ago, in regards to Adin Brown being injury prone, that if a keeper is injury prone, it generally suggests that he hasn't learned how to land properly [after a diving save, etc]. I know it doesn't sound like the hip flexor thing was caused by making a diving save or anything, but has anyone else heard that? Or can anyone with more experience judging keepers give me an idea about DJ's technique? alansl
I don't remember reading that comment but it makes a certain amount of sense. I think the key is that it depends upon the nature of the injury. My understanding is that what is keeping Countess out in this case is a strained quad (and if it was just the hip flexor, he'd have been back sooner). In Adin Brown's case, I think part of the issue is that for religious reasons, he has refused particular kinds of medical/physio treatment in the past (so it took longer for him to heal). Don't know if that is still the case--he was under pressure from trainers/coaches in Colorado and TB to "change his ways." In Countess' case, it's my understanding that the SoS entered the lottery to acquire him b/c they wanted him as trade bait to get Diallo from TB. So I'm guessing that when he got hurt his rookie season, there was no rush to get him back and playing again--b/c he wasn't going to play for them (once it became clear TB wouldn't deal Diallo). I also wonder about the state of the turf and what difference that makes in this case. I know all Fieldturf fields aren't the same. But I'd think that a hard service or one that still has some issues to get worked out is more susceptible to injury.
At the Burn Open House a la Dragon, I watched DJ fall on his shoulder a few times doing the typical lateral dives. He fell hard and bounced nicely. I then remembered who rubbery the surface felt when I first stepped on it and how I instantly wanted to dive and do rolls on it. I haven'e felt that way since... high school?.. Anyway, I thought that he must know what he's doing by falling that hard on it (DJ is VERY athletic) and the surface can't be all that bad... Unless you're prone to partially torn quads.
