ABC first aired the clip a few days after the WCQ versus Mexico in Columbus, when we played Brazil at The Rose Bowl. Still a very powerful clip to this day... and yes, I have this one on my hard drive, too.
Agreed... but the best part of the video is the beginning when they showed the Sam's Army tifo that didn't make it on the game broadcast. Why they didn't show it is beyond me.
Brazil 2 - 1 USA, Pasadena CA, March 3 2001 Brazil's A lineup vs. an all MLS USA squad as Reyna, O'Brien, Friedel, Stewart and Regis had returned to Europe. Chris Armas had the goal.
Actually, it was Mathis. We'd still be hearing about it every day from a certain poster if it was Armas.
Thanks to fidlerre, who is hosting it on his Crew website Hunt Park Insider www.huntparkinsider.com http://www.huntparkinsider.com/video/usacyhillvideo.zip
Sorry. Memory is gin-besotted. Armas was involved though, IIRC. Must have had the assist. A genuine classic. It was so terrific that ABC tried to do another one. It sucked and they gave up. It's the drama of the game that makes it, not the music or the editing.
You are correct, sir. http://www.soccertimes.com/usteams/2001/games/mar03.htm But it was the United States who next dented the back of the net, when Chris Armas and Clint Mathis teamed up in the 40th minute. Armas spotted Mathis from the right flank and delivered the ball to the 18-yard box where Mathis collected, turned, and patiently rolled a low shot across the box and just inside the right post as Brazil goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni stood and watched.
It was worth it just to see Stone say, "Who needs Carson Daly and Total Request Live when we've got the kicks from C-Hill." with a straight face.
Now now now. I try to be a stickler for accuracy. Not that I always succeed. Meanwhile, as I have mentioned before, I will never start a thread on Armas, nor will independently praise him in the context of some other thread. But if someone slams him unfairly -- emphasis on UNFAIRLY -- I will call him out. So, in interest of accuracy and precision -- a concern of yours apparently -- let me say this: you WON"T be hearing from me about Armas' PAST exploits -- real or imagined -- unless others decide to slam him unfarily and inappropriately about his CURRENT peformance. Any questions, just let me know. Thanks.
Thank you...love this historical precision. Gee, and I thought Armas NEVER gets involved in the attack? Silly me.
Gee, just gotta love that respect for a player who has 50 some caps, was instrumental is us qualifying for the '02 WC (by the way, getting INTO the attack on a couple of very critical occasions during the HEX) has MLS Cup and Open Cup medals to his credit, and is captain of his club side. Yep, I admire the way you have zero problem displaying the proper degree of respect. Oh, by the way, may the Golden Rule be visited upon you, too.
I cannot guarantee many things in this world, but I will guarantee that Armas gives fck all whether or not I, or anyone else on this message board, disrespect him. So I'm really not sure wtf you're on about. Perhaps if you took it a little less personally, we'd all be better off.
