Just curious what people will think McBride can do (in the limited amount of time that he's on loan at the Toffee club). Personally, with all the other strikers there, I think he'll just be a forward in the Niall Quinn mold... a couple of goals but more assists or setups off headers (when he can play, that is) OF course, he just might play right bench like Moore did for the past 2 years....or get injured again!?!?!?
If he happens to get a start soon and does well, then gets lots of playing time.. who knows.? He may just surpise a lot of people and have a Joe Max Morrish start. It's in the realm of possiblities for him. I'm not familiar enough with Everton's wingers to know how well they serve the middle but we all know that he can do things when he does get decent service to the middle.

This is a myth. McBride doesn't play better in big matches. McBride will score one goal about every two full matches. That is what he has done during his career with the Nats and that is also what did in the World Cup 2002. He is a solid player that can be expected to play reasonably if given enough minutes. I believe he is an EPL quality player, but the idea that he is "clutch" is demonstrably untrue, a product of selective memory.
A clutch player or otherwise, fact or fantasy, I'm sure Everton fans will be extremely happy if Macca has a strike rate like this in the Premiership. Cheers, William

It's just something that my mother has observed in me, when she was here for my wedding last year-- she notices that the Australians tend to shorten a lot of things in their vernacular, something which I have caught onto and done myself in the year-and-change that I have been here in Australia. And yes, that pertains to (but it isn't limited to) the usage of the "Mc/Mac" prefix... even for where to go to eat. "Honey, shall we have Macca's for takeaway tonight?" I've heard the nickname for McManaman, too, obviously-- but Brian McBride is OUR "Macca". It's catchy enough. Case in point: When he scored that early goal against Mexico in the World Cup, I hollered out "MACCAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" at the top of my lungs, and my wife, who was watching the game with me, thought she was going to go deaf. (Of course, she went bananas when Landon Donovan scored the clinching second goal, but that was moreso for his celebration.) And yes, I am still certain that he will play tonight. I'm even convinced that he will start, based solely on my educated hunches. Cheers, William

That was then, this is now. He's more than just a good header of the ball, and I think he's a bit more of a complete player than people give him credit for. Besides, "Macca" sounds a bit more catchy, IMO. Cheers, William

Yeah, irony, indeed! But all things considered, McBride's Premiership debut was a damned good one. Certainly a good foundation for him to build upon... And I'll tell you what-- if he didn't already have a good reputation in David Moyes' eyes, after their time together at Preston NE, whatever reputation he had has been enhanced now. Cheers, William
Damn Sky Sports News, they'll harp on about a game for 20minutes, interview everyone that was involved with it, knock some statistcis up, then not show the goals. *Hmph* Was it any good? According to my brother, it wasnt a header, which I thought it would be.
You guys really think that his clearance on Poyet's goal was poor???...i thought he did well to get that ball (which was behind him) as far away from goal as he did... i think the goal was more a product of the two Everton players who were beat to headers (one at the top of the area and then the Poyet header) and shaky goalkeeping... i think Brian did well considering he was obviously not match fit (at least not 90 minutes fit)... he was laboring from about the 35th minute on... he seemed a bit out of sorts at times but that's to be expected after only having been with the team for a few days... his touch failed him a few times and he was a bit indecisive on some occassions... again, all things to be expected from a player making his EPL debut after not having played in a competitive match in a few months... well taken goal although Keller really gave up a lot of the goal on his left... regardless, he finished well... i think that once Brian gains full fitness he will be a real nightmare in the air for opposing defenses... he won his fair share today and he really doesn't have his legs yet... i think that once he becomes familiar with his teammates he will gain a bit more confidence (and them in him)... i think he may be the ideal player to put alongside Rooney... i think we (the Crew) may not get him back...
Dani, I disagree. Unless Everton forks over about $10 mil (my estimate) there's no way MLS is going to give up a marquee player. The three month loan is MLS' way of throwing McB a bone in appreciation for his years of service.
Don't you think they would if they could? They can't show EPL highlights on that show b/c they don't have the rights to do so (I think they might be able to show lower division highlights, IIRC).
They can't. It's not like in the US where once the game is over everyone can show clips as long as they put "Courtsey of BLAH BLAH". Sky doesn't own the right to EPL so they can't show the clips.
