Do you think an ideal team is a team that attack on all costs, like Cryuff's total football team or a team with 11 galaticos something like Real Madrid (actually they have 7, Raul, Castillas, Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Zidane, Figo, and Beckham), a team that is so perfect that they win all the games like the UDA dream basketball team in the past. Or a team will 11 dribblers, dancers or martial art performers on the pitch, or a team that works hard on the pitch and ae tactically sound but boring at times.

Don't really know. Probably the lst one is the most ideal. Porto and Greece have shown that a well coached, hard working and talented side can do great things.

I do not get the USA Dream Team part. Basically, the standard of American basketball was(I am avoiding a debate on 2002 World Championship) so high that it is possible to beat. Of course, I want it to be the Dream Team. It is liked picking the best soccer players from around the world. Most of the teams consisted of NBA journeymen or players who could not make it.

Well I think that last seasons results in the primera liga have shown that a team full of super stars doesnt always bring home the results. On the other hand, we see the consistant success of the brazillian national team. They seem to do consistantly well on the international stage by throwing an overwhelmingly talented players on the field and letting them do their thing. On the third hand, we can see that football can be a fickle thing, and sometime no amount of talent can defy fate (see France, 2002)

To me the answer to this thread is very simple...
FC Porto with Mourinho coaching :)

Dida's an excellent keeper, but I'm surprised that anyone would place him on their "ideal" team. Also, shouldn't you have Ronaldinho on the inside and Beckham on the outside? If you insist on playing Beckham, he needs to be where he can do the most good (crosses) and the least harm. The inside needs a talented player like Ronaldinho.

Real's woes this past season were due to having too few players and not keeping them in shape thru conditioning. The talent's there- it just wasn't used properly or supported with role players who could come in and spell for the Galacticos.

Even overwhelmingly talented players need a great coach. Scolari is the reason Brasil was disciplined enough to play keepaway with England for 30 minutes without risking a lead by needlessly attacking like they did against Italy in 1982. That 1982 team was better than the 1994 or 2002 champions. He's not the man (Tele Santana?) who allowed Zico to take and miss a PK seconds after coming onto the pitch in 1986. Coaching is everything. If Brasil's failures from 1982-1990 don't prove this, then Greece's Euro win should.

    :D

Agreed. France probably should have done better than the first round.
