The most important things for fries are salt and plenty of pepper. Other than that, I just dip them in mayo and we're good to go. I don't eat catsup.
I voted other. I like lots of salt and pepper and then I like to dip them in honey mustard sauce. I've also been known to dip them in ranch dressing on occasion.
When I get them, I like lots of ketchup. But I only get them about once a year. Usually one or two fries will satisfy my need for a couple of weeks.
Here in Utah, they have this topping called "Fry Sauce" It is widely believed to have started at a chain called Arctic Circle (which is still around) but some older Utahns believe that it may have started at a different burger stand which is no longer around and then quickly copied by A.C. If anything, Arctic Circle was the first good sized chain to offer it. The stuff is made mostly with ketchup and mayonnaise, and seems to have a few spices mixed in. It's quite tasty and I definitely prefer it to plain ketchup. A few other local chains (including Crown Burger, Apollo, and Omega) have also had fry sauce for quite a while, and the local McDonalds even carried fry sauce with their logo on the packets for a short time. Quite often at the places that don't have it, locals will mix together packets of mayo and ketchup together to dip their fries in. You generally can't get it outside of Utah. The stuff is apparently a "Utah thing" along with shaved celery and carrots in Jello.
Ya' know...I think you are right. Your good ol' neighbor to the north (Idaho) has it....mainly at local places though.
When I'm at a barbecue joint, I put the house's spicey barbecue sauce on them. But it's got to be the NC/VA variety, I don't care for the SC/GA/Northern FLA mustard-style variety on fries.
could be any of several things, but only one at a time: gravy cheddar cheese (real, not canned) vinegar honey mustard always pepper though
As for fries, no place better than Belgium,,,,,best fries in the world bar none. Any fritte cart you go to will offer about 10 different varieties of sauces. Hot mustard was my favorite, like a dijon only hotter. Over there they have a sauce that tastes like a mixture of mayo and ketchup with some seasonings added so its not just a Utah thing. they also have a curry sauce. FYI,,,,mom used to make the Jello with the carrot and celery all the time and she is a new englander
1-i'll have to check that out soon 2-folks, mayo mixed with ketchup and spices is called russian dressing so it's not really a utah thing or a wherever thing... and if you had pickle relish VOILA! 1000 island
