As it often is with comedians and comedic actors, you either like them or you can't stand them, how does everyone feel about the following? Richard Pryor George Carlin John Cleese Bill Murray Steve Martin Jim Carrey Robin Williams Bill Hicks Chris Rock Mike Myers
For me Richard Pryor and Bill Hicks are my all favorites. The first time I saw Bill I was amazed. Too bad his life was cut short at such a young age. Richard is still king in my book.....
Robin Williams: he used to be good, but he has been making sh#t movies in the last 5 or 6 years. He does look liked a serial killer in that thriller with Al Pacino.
Robin Williama Live on Broadway almost made me pee my pants. He is a dirty old man who is very funny.
Richard Pryor is the mother of pretty much all present day comedians. You see definite Pryor influences in Eddie Murphy and Chris Rock.
Dave Attell is one of the funniest comedians around now. Anyone else seen him (besides on Insomniac)?
Richard Pryor The father of the modern day black comedians George Carlin Can be very funny, even if you disagree with his politics John Cleese Brit Humour - you either get it, or you don't - I do and he's funny Bill Murray Deadpan humour, I've always liked him Steve Martin The late 70's, early 80's funniest guy - From King Tut to Playing the Banjo with an arrow through his head - genius Jim Carrey Can make funny faces - the ultimate Class Clown type comedian Robin Williams Hasn't been funny since he stopped doing coke Bill Hicks What are you smoking? Low Birth weight. You? Yellow fingernails. Yeah, just don't get the ones that say Lung Cancer. Chris Rock Instead of outlawing guns, charge 1,000 dollars for a round of ammunition. Somebody comes in the emergency room with 5 gun shots? You know that cat didn't something bad. Mike Myers Good character comedian. More likeable when he is self-deprecating. Like him in most of his movies and SNL appearances as well.
I'll always associate these guys with these lines... Richard Pryor "Fire is a great motivator. They should use it in the Olympics." George Carlin "Perhaps the worst thing you can do is open the fridge and find something you cannot identify. Could be meat; could be cake." John Cleese "Go away, you silly king! Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries! Return, and I shall taunt you further!" Bill Murray "Eighteenth hole, here at Augusta, the Cinderella story from outta nowhere..." Steve Martin "Born in Arizona, moved to Babylonia, King Tut..." Jim Carrey "I...CAN'T...LIE!" Robin Williams "Nanu-nanu." Bill Hicks n/a Chris Rock "I ain't no 'ho! No, but you is wearing their uniform." Mike Myers "Schwing!"
Chris Rock is my favorite of those listed. Too many classic lines to even begin. But I'll try anyway... "You got change for a hundred?" (from the "how much for one rib" bit in "I'm gonna git you, Sucka.")
Pryor = pretty damn good. Disturbing sometimes. His rant about being high on heroin was really disturbing. Carlin = the king of stand up, bar none. I know many of his routines by heart they are so damn good. Cleese = one of the few British comics I like. Can't say I like British comedy very much though. Murray = ok. Nothing that special, but not bad. Has already peaked though.......what's happened to him anyway? Martin = see Murray Carrey = I'm not the greatest fan of his movies. His standup was quite good back in the day. He did impressions really well.....then he went to goofy ass physical comedy for some reason. Williams = used to be brilliant. He's still good though......he talks about 50 words a second. Hicks = I'll profess my ignorance by not knowing who he is. Rock = Damn funny. Don't care for his acting though. Myers = a decent actor. Liked him better on SNL though.
Richard Pryor: never really listened/watched him George Carlin: king of complaints and whining against yuppies - love him! John Cleese: no one can watch Fawlty Towers and not find him funny "No need to worry, he's from Barcelona!" Bill Murray: probably was funny before i started paying attention to him (I'm 19); good deadpan actor (What About Bob?, Charlie's Angels, etc.) Steve Martin: I started listening to his standup recently and he's hilarious because he says things that just don't make sense! "My real name is Gern Blanksten!" Jim Carrey: Ace Ventura was "da bomb" when it came out and the rhino scene in the second one is pure nouveau-slapstick Robin Williams: Live on Broadway is good - he became tame/mainstream, but he's got some left in him Bill Hicks: funny stuff, especially a bit on marketing and the devil references Chris Rock: old-fashion funny exagerator Mike Myers: sometimes funny, sometimes not
I think Robin Williams is overrated. That and that Steve Martin's King Tut thing is not funny at all. I more of a fan of later comedians but I think Chris Rock is the funniest stand up around.
Chris Rock, the stand up comedian is brilliant. He has a very simple technique, but it works for him and his material. On the other hand, Chris Rock the actor is simply dreadful, especially in movies written by himself. From the above list, my favorite has to be Richard Pryor. Very good all around, from playing characters to physical comedy to subtle facial expressions. Not in the list, but comedians I like now are Dave Attel, Dave Chappelle, Sarah Silverman and Dane Cook.
My favorite comedians are David Cross and Bob Odenkirk. Other comedians that I'm a big fan are Paul Tompkins, Dave Attell, David Spade, Rock, Dave Chappelle, Mitch Hedberg, John Stewart, Will Ferrell and the people who made MST3K such a great show.
My wife and I saw him last weekend at the midnight show in Columbus. Dude, that was feckin hilarous. He came out after the show and while we were at the bar afterwards, he was hanging out right beside us. I offered him an Irish Car Bomb, but he refused, he was drinking whiskey. skipshad's dead on with Dane Cook, I laugh every time his Comedy Central show is on. Christ Chex, instant classic.
