What do people think of the new CM4 Demo? I've only played a bit so far but I really like it. My only problem is that matches can't be run as fast as they were on CM3.
If I thought it was really that great I'd be playing it and not posting here. But seriously it's pretty good, hard to digest all the new stuff in one night. I like the 2d part, but its not like I ever really wanted it, which may be a minority opinion, but the text was good enough for me. The new contract stuff will take a while to figure out what the best way to do it is, but I like the extras in it. I'll certainly get the game as I could really use a gmae manual at this point.
O.K., some quick impressions based on a couple of hours of playing around with the demo. The good Definitely like the added depth in the off the field stuff. The new variables in training, coaching assignment, player management and contracts should be fun, if they work o.k. over the course of a season. Also, the wider range of press interactions and "random events" by players should help mix things up. I loved the CM3 family, but they got pretty routine after a few seasons of play if you knew what you were doing. I like the new UI overall -- it's much slicker than CM3 without being totally foreign. Some of the short cuts/new pull down menus will be a real improvement. The bad Performance and "polish". So far, it's been stable on my Win98 machine, but it's slow compared to CM01/02 and pretty buggy (hey, that's why they call it a beta, of course). Hopefully, the speed will improve by the final as they optimize the code. Unfortunately, many of the bugs go to the heart of the gameplay. For example, in the training screens, the game doesn't remember changes properly, forcing you to confirm each change, exit back to the main team screen, and reenter the training section to make more changes. This would drive me absolutely nuts over the course of a CM season. Also, the navigation was quirky throughout and unresponsive at times. The 2-D view appears to be only a marginal improvement to me. I like the idea of being able to watch the action on the field and adjust tactics accordingly. However, the graphics are pretty weak and remind me of an old Atari or Apple II sports game. More importantly, however, I found it difficult to follow the ball and players and navigate between the 2-D view, and match and player stats -- which makes the view of limited use for in game adjustment. In a perfect world, I'd like to be able to adjust formations, strategies, and personnel to attack vulnerable positions, overload sides, etc., just like I would from the sideline in a real match. However, the play was too slow and the UI too clumsy for this and I would probably default to watching text on super high speed like I do on CM3 instead. Maybe it'll grow on me as I play it more... The bottom line The new depth in the off the field area is a good enough reason for me to upgrade at some point. However, I probably won't take the plunge until they work out the navigation/gameplay and performance issues. So, my marriage is probably safe for a few months more. I'll play it a bit more this weekend to see if these first impressions hold.
Biggest dissapointment ever played it since the 1st one and the demo is very poor.full of bugs and always crashes i want my money back after paying for the cm magazine
No, but Jonathon Spector is on Man U. But he wants to leave because he "feels he was brought in to the club under false pretenses". Oh an Blackburns coaches feel Brad Friedel is a "usefull player".
The reason he's 30 instead of 13 is because theres a problem with giving players ages as young as 13 but it will be fixed in the full game
That's what I thought. minus the amazon.com bit though. As for my comments on the game, I think it is horribly slow. I had to wait 30 mins for 4 days to progress! I won't buy the game anytime soon if it is going to be this slow, I'll probably just play another of my 100 unplayed games. I'm a soccer manager binge buyer but I don't think I will buy this one.
Don't be too quick to dump the game, I suspect it's issues like this that they're looking at to tune up before the full game is released. I bet Marc for one checks this thread every day or so.
