Hey, as long as you guys come with your campers and spend your money here I don't care... Just out of curiousity, what do you think about Austria?
God knows your apres ski huts charge us tourists enough! I've always thought of Austria as a bit dodgy (politically) but also as more gemütlich than Switzerland if you know what I mean. The Austrians seem a bit more extraverted than the Swiss.
I always love how some stingy Dutch drive around Switzerland because they don't want to pay to use our highways... Yes, I agree. The Austrians are a bit more relaxed... (we and Germany call it slow) However, you are forgetting about the Suisse Romande and canton Ticino. They are also a lot more gemütlich than us Deutsch-Schweizer.
I'm hardly an expert on all things Swiss so I trust your every word! I was just referring to the difference in how Americans perceive Switzerland and how the Europeans do (whereas everybody thinks the Dutch are drug abusing liberal luvvies who kill of their babies if they're less than perfect, so as a Swiss man you've got far less to worry about reputation-wise)
While we're on the subject of fantastic projects, here is the official website of the Burj Al Arab: http://www.burj-al-arab.com
I know, it's just that when most talk about Switzerland they think about the Deutsch-Schweiz (including ourselves). Not really fair to our fellow French and Italian speaking citizens... PS: We've got some of the most liberal gun laws in the world, no wonder the Americans love us.
There is no country I would rather live in. Lots of countries that I love to visit, but I aint leavin here, as long as we all still have the right to vote, drink beer, go to church, and throw beers at Pacers (well maybe not that one).
Ha! Fair point. But surely most people know about the French and Italian population in Switzerland? The other day, btw, in a thread on Dutch euthanasia I tried to make clear to Americans slagging off the Dutch that the Swiss probably have more liberal euthanasia laws than us but they simply weren't interested! The Swiss tourism board is doing an excellent job in the US it has to be said.
Thought about this one a little more after reading more of the previous posts. I would own houses/apartments in the following locations. Some of which are outside America. 1. Seal Beach, California (Condo over a bar on Main St, base residence) 2. Pupukea Beach, Oahu Hawaii (Surf HQ for the winter) 3. Fort Collins, Colorado (Hiking HQ for the summer) 4. Savannah, Georgia (Apartment on an old Square for St Patty's day) 5. London, UK (Near Highbury, need I say more) 6. Washington DC (Need a place to sleep while visiting old college buddies) 7. Baghdad, Iraq (Place to crash while I visit friends, and help set up schools) 8. Tazar, Hungary (haven't been there, but I hear it is wild)
Honestly, in seven years of Texas I found that the Netherlands have a pretty good reputation in the US. So don't listen to McCrackhead, In the Net etc... (then again, I might have hung around too many potheads in my college days)
I know, I was half-joking. It's just that Holland is the obvious punchbag for conservative christians.
I loved Holland ever since I was a kid, because of their soccer team and the fact that the name sounds very very beautiful after being translated into Chinese. But now I've been to both Holland and Switzerland. If I have to pick a place to live between the two, I'd pick Switzerland. But then again I'm just a boring guy.
A an assesment which is incredibley wide of the mark. More Scots (1st and 2nd generation I assume) live outwith Scotland than in it. Scots get themselves all over the place. I'm not extensively travelled myself but I have been to Belgium, I wouldn't call it boring but it does have that reputation over here and frankly, all the "Super-cool" Euro nightclubs in the world won't change that. As for being stingy, if only, maybe if I was, I wouldn't have had to go to the bank to get an over-draft this morning.
