I have worn red to every US game I have attended since 2000. That said dress appropriately for the weather and don't worry so much about the red. If USSF cared so much they would have charged $150 for a ticket and included a warm red jacket. Since they didn't they are being a bit irresponsible to select a venue almost specifically for the chance of bad weather and then dictate the attire.
I always wondered why we wear red vs a team with red as it's color. I'd have thought red vs Honduras and blue vs Mexico.
Personally I always like to wear the jersey of the team I am rooting for. If they want us to wear red, why don't we have a red kit?
They used to. I agree though I'd love to see them come out with a red kit again. Also not a lot of their apparel is red either. They could make a killing if they had a red kit and more red apparel.
Because we wear red while they wear white and blue. Hence, red, white, and blue. This seems to be a much harder concept for people to wrap their heads around than it should be.
Yeahbut, they used to have a red kit at one point and still asked folks to wear red. It's bright and catches the eye whether you are there or watching on TV.
HHM, it's not a hard concept for me. I was merely pointing out that people would probably wear more red if the team did. Sort of like the Dutch do with orange. I liked the old red kits, but they on't ask me.
My apologies, that wasn't meant as a specific jab at you. I didn't re-read the way I phrased that until after the edit time period passed.
No worries man, I didn't really take offense, I just wanted to clarify my earlier post. On a separate note, it occured to me last night that it could be cool (albeit strange) if we had yellow jerseys a la the Don't Tread on me flags. It would certainly be unique
When some of the players were throwing their jerseys into the stands last night, I thought to myself that I'd really like that Howard jersey.
Anyone know whether or not Howards yellow jersey was meant as a nod to Columbus or just him reaching in to the closet and pulling out the first jersey he saw?
To be honest, I think it's pretty standard Nike kit. I've seen it on ManU, Villa (Although the only time I've seen Friedel wear it was the week after we won the Cup), and Celtic keepers this year.
On it's own, Howard's jersey was not a nod to the Crew. Globally, MASSIVE has such presence that any team wearing Nike is paying tribute to us. After the beatdown handed to adidas sponsored Mexico, teams with three stripes will soon be sporting yellow goalkeeper jerseys, too.
