The next time the opening line rings true will be 2037. Not my revelation - I read it somewhere a couple days ago.
Bruce Springsteen: Finding America in Song Bruce Springsteen & Friends - Music America - June 4 & 5, 2026 West Long Branch
Ran across this clip earlier today. I'm not sure I really appreciated the song when it first came out.
so the story goes...Croce was in the Army Reserves at the old Fort Dix (NJ) and he overheard a telephone conversation involving another soldier.
Actually it was Fort Jackson, probably. He joined the Guard to avoid the draft (which was a common out in the early years of Viet Nam) and was only in about four months. I was around him for a couple of days once and didn't like him much. He seemed to spend a lot of time making his wife unhappy, and she showed up for breakfast one morning with a major black eye and some bruising on her arms. Several friends of mine are something between acquaintances and friends with her though and say she's never said anything bad about him to them, so maybe I drew the obvious conclusion incorrectly...
oh shite man, she ended up marrying another abusive guy who ended up beating AJ and that is how apparently he lost his vision. I have always a hard time differentiating good music from the person, but thanks.
You never know, but hopefully Harry keeps it up for a long time. It's coming. "NextDoor Mage - We Have Harry Kane" https://open.spotify.com/album/4foeESK3ga493y8vurna3l
