Can anyone give any insights about the chances of Peru to qualify for Germany 2006? It's been a long time since they don't make it to the finals, and they always had traditional, good squads in the past, including in 1970 when they were quater-finalists. Don't they have a world class player that I can't remember his name?

our chances are pretty slim in my view

we have a couple of good players but we are very sensitive to injuries and there are a couple of holes which need to be filled

3 players pizarro, mendoza and solano must perform on the same level in the national team has they do in europe

sorry to say they never do...

Even with the extra slot for SA, I doubt they'll make it to the WC.

as said our only hope is that pizarro, solano and mendoza starts playing on the same level in the national team as in europe. if that happens we will have a dangerous attacking line. if palacios plays as he did in the wcq to 98 (i doubt that he will however) we will have two good offensive midfielders in solano and palacios and two good strikers in pizarro and mendoza. in any case it will be a more dangerous attacking line up than many southamerican teams right now. the problem lies in the defence

i don't think it will happen but who knows? nobody thought that ecuador would qualify to wc 2002

    I did :D

There's the problem to Peru and Chile, Ecuador is now a good rival and Venezuela is not the crappy team it used to be. So, this time is going to be harder than ever.

    Yup, I did too.

But, like you mentioned before, it's going to be harder now that Venezuela has gotten better.

The next qualifications are going to be the toughest ever.

Good luck Peruchos !!! and may Ecuador make it again!

What are your expectations for the brazilian coach Paulo Autuori that has just took over? He's known to lead weaker sides on paper to win championships, like he did with Botafogo in the Campeonato Brasileiro of 1995, and later helped Cruzeiro to win Copa Libertadores.

    Argentina Paraguay Brasil y Peru
peru solo por ser peruano y tener fe en mi pais

Can you say that Solano and Pizarro are world class palyers? Maybe they are the big hope for Peru while other Conmebol teams have some of their key players retiring from the NT.

Paraguay - won't have Chilavert, Gamarra and Arce

Chile - won't have Salas and Zamorano

    Ecuador - won't have Aguinaga.

if you look at their performances in europe you can surely call them world class players. both have been performing excellent in the european competitions. the problem is that they haven't been able to perform on the same level in the national team. let's hope they do this time.

peru has some very good players up front with pizarro, mendoza and upcoming youngsters such as farfan and guerrero. we also have some good offensive mids in solano and palacios. but our main problem is still the defence which must be fixed. if not there is not a chance for us to qualify. we have a weak defence and we also lack a first class keeper.

I would put Peru behind Brasil, Argentina, Colombia, Paraguay and Uruguay. Probably even with Ecuador and Chile and a bit ahead of Venezuela and Bolivia.

I would not be shocked if they made it, they have some talented players and they play attractive football. But they have to improve their defense and also be more dangerous on offense. Based on the recent past it seems they control the ball and create scoring chances but don't finish them.

at the moment we only have one true defender in the team rebosio

both our fullbacks play better in midfield

what we need to find is someone to partner rebosio and quickly

The extra half a spot that FIFA gave back.

Don't tell me you missed the news of FIFA taking Oceania full spot away?

    Bolivia- won't have Erwin Sanchez

i think peru can make it. add arg, bra, par, and the rest can fight for the last spot. anything can occur.

these eliminatorias will be very hard fought. i think uruguay has the best chance except brazil/argies

it will be tough but a fifth place is not impossible for peru
