alright, step down off your ego, I certainly know the Gold Cup is not the World Cup, but it has provided competitive games against the likes of....mmm...I don't know, Brazil?
Seriously. I'm not sure where soccer players stand relative to football, hoops or baseball players at UCLA, but I doubt it would compare to the talent available in London, Barcelona, Amsterdam, etc.
Hate to bring in another sport for comparison, but it could be that Wynne is our Matt Leinart. I mean, making $$$ in the pro game is one thing, but you're only young once, and there is life after sports, in which case a degree is often a useful thing, especially if you DON'T want to coach, although he is a Physiological Science major. Interesting - the comparison to Eddie Pope - Wynne's UCLA bio mentions Pope as the player he admires. I personally think it's cool that Pope set the standard for a world-class player who chose to play domestically, who put family and pioneering the game in the States before the prestige of playing in foreign lands. Thing is, I think Wynne does want to go overseas. I just think he wants to finish more college first.
Leinart didn't come out this year because of the bad shoulder... Dude... a Jewish athlete at Westwood, a place tucked in between Beverly Hills, Holmby Hills, Bel Air and Brentwood?
I think you have a point here. It's also probable that the interest he has received was from clubs he saw no advantage in joining. His dad was a pro athlete so I'm sure M. knows enough about pro sports to understand what's most lucrative and advantageous for his career. Even though his dad played a different sport, he's probably still a great resource or at least knows the how to find the right help if M. ever needs any.
But Brazil has been in past Gold Cups that Eddie Pope has played in and where he proved his worth and ability. that's what the comparison was about - a top player who never went to Europe, but in certain tournaments and matches (World Cup and Gold Cup, despite your sniffy attitude) against quality opponents proved that the domestic league kept his skills up just fine.
The women in A'dam are metaphorically and literaly a head above this cheerleader. I hope Wynne likes tall blondes that are even taller than him. Otherwise maybe a cute Indonesische meisje.
