I'm a bit surprised about Goodson. I assumed he was left unprotected because he was planning to leave MLS now he's out of contract. Of course that may still happen, I guess we'll have to see.

Several starters in that group. I'd say it's a better group then RSL or Chivas or Toronto started with. Don't get real attached, many will end up gone in trades.

Pozniak is a Canadian national and will thus take up an SI slot.

    jeff is correct.

but still I consider it a successful draft for two reason.
    1. ryan cochrane. you build from the middle out and a good, young central defender is a nice building block.
    2. they didn't take kevin hartmann.

really, what more could you ask for?

Goodson has a bit of a reputation as a thug. Of course, I haven't seen him play recently, so that's just what I've heard. Anyone else hear the same? Different? I'm curious to know what the rest of you think about his alleged thugishness?

Otherwise, I'm reasonably happy with this list.

    Grabavoy could be very good.
Ivan Guerrero has some skills and should be a steadying influence on a young squad.

I am PUMPED that we took Ryan Cochrane!! He's also the only former Quake on the list. He will need to be a team leader and try to imbue the other guys with Quakes lore, culture, and team-fan relationship! I think he's up to the task.

    GOOOOOOO QUAAAAAAAKES!!!!!

Three center mids. Vide, Carroll, Grabavoy.

I was really hoping for Doe from NY.

Note to Colorado, Salt Lake and Kansas City: Your players stink. They stink more so than the players from Toronto.

Where is Goodson from originally? Maybe there is a trade already set up with someone else near his home town? This could be more about getting his rights then about playing him.

I am stoked that none of Wells, Burciaga, or any keepers were on the list. Stoked!

Doe and Tudela might have been interesting. Let's see where we end up OK? This is just the very first of many baby steps.

We still need to add eighteen (18) more players. Also, some of these guys will be traded away.

Gavin Glinton?! I sure hope that Frank is right with this choice, but worst case, Glinton would be OK as an option off the bench and we need to add 18 more guys! 18! That's a lot of guys.

So, how does this break down by position?

    Forwards: Glinton

    Attacking Midfielders: ??Grabavoy??

Wide Midfielders: ??Riley, Hernandez? (lil' help here!)

Defensive / Central Midfielders: Carroll, Guerrero, Vide, Pozniac?, Grabavoy?

    Wide Defenders: Riley, Hernandez?

Central Defenders: Cochrane, Goodson, Hernandez??? ??

I really know next to nothing about:
    Vide
    Hernandez
    Pozniac

    ...and only very little about:
    Riley
    Grabavoy
    Glinton
    Guerrero

Looking forward to your opinions about these guys!

...and while I agree with Jeff, and I'm trying not to get attached to these guys (since many may be traded in the upcoming months), but I'm stoked right now!

I'm happy with the list. I think we did pretty well. Fairly young, yet plenty of experience.

I have never like Goodson, but, watched him pay a little this year and was impressed. He was Dallas' defender of the year.

Now we need to sign a good Goalie and some good strikers.

    I'm with you Richard.

We can get a 'keeper from the A-League and I'll bet there are some MLS backups we can trade for. I bet that we can get TheJoe! for a song, and we'd better not pay more than that for him. The El-Lay and NYJ fire sales have yet to open, but their new coaches will be retooling and deep pockets (and next to no respect for the salary cap) so there will be some players available there for cheap.

I'm betting that the SaltLickers, Crapids, and Crewless all do some retooling as well. Chitcago could be looking for new guys too, and therefore dumping players.

It's a good year to be the only expansion team!

I think Hernandez usually plays right back. His Chivas USA bio calls him a "gifted right back". We are short of attacking players right now. I think the total MLS career goals scored from this group is about 5. I like offensive players so I'm not that excited about this list. But given the options it seems to be OK. And there's a long way to go in building the roster.

why are you stoked? I could understand if you wanted Cochrane over Wells...whatever, difference of opinion. But, stoked not to have Burciaga? If he wasn't going to be a decent defender, he would at least be a decent winger. better than Pozniak, holy crap, we really did pick someone off the TFC scrap-pile.

Goodson is from northern VA (Alexandria) and played college ball at Maryland.

I don't know if I'd call him a thug, but he is a physical player and maybe a little awkward looking because of his size. He's been quite good on set pieces this year.

Keep in mind that Toronto is really going to need all the Canadian nationals they can get to keep within the league guidelines. I imagine that Yallop will try to trade Pozniak back to Toronto for a late draft pick...or not.

Yeah I don't know why you guys would take Poz. Probably trade him back to us for a pick in a latter round or as part of some kind of deal. Really, he is one of those guys who is only useful to Toronto.

But anyway guys, congrats, you officially have a team.

I'm going on record as saying I don't like Goodson, but if he can keep his thugish urges under control he might be able to win me over. Vide might just be the sleeper pick of the bunch, not sure why Frank went with Glinton.
