Kudos for turning the game but otherwise I wasn't that much impressed by the English team.

Well it was a good go, especially with not having our stars. Good luck England the rest of the way

I coached a lot of goalkeepers and I taught the frog dive. Where the keeper catches the ball and falls down. However I now detest that move.

    Final 2-1 England wins.

Well, I hoped for Spain to equalize, but it's been a very good quarter-final that I happily followed.

I hope the rest of the games will be as much captivating. :coffee:

Feel bad for Spain as they were technically a lot better than England. Missing their two best attackers was what did them in. England MF is really too slow for this level of soccer. I can't see them winning this tournament.

The Wiegman magic continues: Spain bossed the game for 80'--but it only takes one to equalize, and England managed to get it--somehow--at a time when they looked defeated. Then Stanway--who can whelp it--did just that to win the game. Exciting game. Spain will feel unlucky--they played brilliantly and gave England almost nothing for three-quarters of the match.

My granddaughters are "heading" to bed. It is 06:30 in Japan and they have been up all night. Before getting ready for bed they did not even tell me if they liked the match. But they did say (or sing in harmony) "See you for the next one, tomorrow." That was accompanied by harmonious yawns. ;)

While Spain was missing players England was, I believe, as well. England played, except for 2 or 3 lapses, exactly the match they wanted to play. Always keeping Spain in front of them and making the Spanish passing game just so much time wasting.
Spain is one of the best I have ever seen at keeping the ball away from both goals.

On a different day but "Same bat time and same bat channel."

Edit to add: You can find most matches world wide listed here:
    https://www.espn.com/soccer/schedule
The TV or streaming is rarely listed but I usually know when a match is to be played.

We were missing our two best players including the Ballon d'or winner

And both players were our main scoring threats. You cannot account for that. England fans would say the same if they were in our shoes.

Football truly is special, this is why you play the full ninety.

Spain controlled the whole game but it doesn't matter. Spain really miss Putellas in a game like this, when mentally you have to be switched on especially at the end of the game.

Mentality monsters, if you never believe you're out of a game then there's always a chance and Spain internationally just can't seem to show up when it matters.

I wonder now about the Semi-final for England because a game like this can really be emotionally draining. Will they be flat for the next game?

Spain’s style was always going to give England difficulty but still I think England underperformed. The system probably makes it worse with playing Kirby in that role. Spain were amazing defensively though for most of that game. One v one defending was excellent.

Daly is not a left back. This position has always been a problem area for England. Along with keeper.

Russo needs to start now. Ellen White doesn’t hold the ball up well enough.

I like this England team. Likeable and got a lot of spirit.

Ha: Seriously? England didn't play "they way they wanted to play." That's absurd. They were minutes away from being defeated and did virtually nothing in attack until the equalizing goal. Spain bossed the game. Meanwhile, Spain was putting a lot of pressure on England and put a lot of balls into the box. Daly was getting terrorized by the Spain forward on the right. I'm quite sure that's not how England wanted the game to go.

Agree about Spain's defense. While it's easy to talk about their possession game, they absolute throttled England defensively--quick to the ball, anticipate passes well, and don't mind pushing and being physical. Did England have one quality chance before scoring? I don't remember one but could have forgotten.

The GK was expecting a pass to Hemp and shoot from there.

Stanway dribbling made a slight move where she looks like she's going to pass to Hemp and then suddenly made a shot instead.

Feel really bad for Spain. By far the better footballing team and should have killed the game off when England looked ragged and disorganized after the first goal. But they didn't and they paid for it. Football is a cruel game.

Looked like a great shot to me. The team including the keeper was expecting the ball out wide.

Still, our goalkeeper is a weakness of the team. She cost us the game vs Germany as well.
