Yildiz took the PK, the keeper guessed correctly and saved it, but Yildiz was on-top of the rebound, and chips it back in. 3-0 Juve.
Both PKs were fair calls in real time, but I'm really surprised the first triggered an on-field review, and the 2nd didn't. Normally I'm on team "handball in the box is handball in the box," but literally what else could the defender do in that situation? It would be nearly impossible to slide in like that without having one of your hands up.
Like everyone else, I have no idea what the handball rules are anymore. I give up. I guess I just have to wait and see how the ref feels on the day for each game
The thing is, this is more about VAR and their role in a match than the 2021 wording change. The ref would've been just as justified to rule that it wasn't a "deliberate" handling of the ball in 2020 as he is to rule that the player's arm was in a "natural position" given the context of the action today.
Agreed. I try not to play the 'our yanks are unfairly ignored' card that is common on these boards from time to time, but it really does feel like Wes would be better off going to sit down in the corner rather than making runs. He is cutting into spaces that so far have been consistently overlooked for 45 minutes, sometimes feels like its not a coincidence.
Great first half from Juve, currently sitting in 3rd based on goal difference. First PK called against Locatelli, I thought should have stood. Yes, he gets the ball but the follow through still goes through the planted footed. The second one would be frustrating to concede, but I believe the correct call. Yes, the defender doesn't know where the ball is going, but his arm is over his shoulder. Great to see David scoring again. Great setup touch and finish.
To me, it's a text-book example of when you want VAR to recommend an on-field review. The PK call is within the scope of the relevant Law / additional guidance's, but the touch to the hand looked way more egregious in real-time, and wayyyy less intentional on replay. I think there is 100% a possibility that the ref looks at some replays and sticks with the PK call, but he should've been called over to review it.
2nd half starts with a nice Yildiz run, and he's only stopped by a two handed shove to the back, which the ref said wasn't a foul. IMO, this ref is having a rough one...
Goal Mckennie! Might be ruled an OG, he made a wonderful run, dribbled the keeper, and the ball kinda knocked off a defender on the line into the goal. Worth noting that Wes is slow getting up..
Actually I see different sites recording it differently. Listening to an Italian crew so I'm not sure what the final decision was. Juventus.com says it's his
I think there is a Serie A technical committee who will make the final decision in the match report. That's probably what clubs use to award bonuses for goals / assists.
Also, while typing some of that, Wes got on the ball in the box again, beat a defender off the dribble, and took a shot, but the keeper made a decent save on it.
Wes leading on the right side, trying to break but stay onside. The ball carrier ignores him the whole way. Instead, the guy passes to someone who is offsides. Wes visibly not happy as he is waving his arms around and saying something to the guy who made the bad pass.
I noticed that! Fair play to Miretti, who has been good today (despite occasionally looking off Wes' runs )
Wes with a 2nd!!! Kalulu (who also looked him off earlier today) finds Wes open in the box, and Wes heads it into the bottom corner, where the keeper had no chance!
The Cremonese defenders on that side have been dreadful today. Wes had FAR too much space there. I think the guy who was marking Wes was also the one who left space for Yildiz's goal on Juve's 2nd.
2 more subs, neither for Wes. Looks like Wes has returned to the right side, but unclear what role he's occupying on that side.
Cremonese put the ball in the back of the net off a corner kick, but literally NONE of them celebrated, as everyone spotted a handball on the play.
