Since 2005 they use assists as a tie breaker in the Golden Boot race.

Yeah I used to like that type of scoring.

I moved back from Italy ten years ago and never knew they changed it.

Also because my Earthquakes always sucked until now so I never realized or paid attention to it.

I remember in the old NASL , Giorgio Chinaglia had more goals in 1979 I think it was but because Oscar Fabiani had more assists, Giorgio lost the goal scoring title.

When Lothar Matthäus scored his first assist for the NY/NJ Metrostars, a reporter told him , how does it feel to get your first MLS point and he didn’t know what they were talking about.

One of my sons had a youth coach who in one game told a kid they were playing a "chocolate" position. Because everyone loves chocolate everywhere.

10 Weston McKennies + Di Gregorio finish where in Serie A this year?

If he ever gets a statue it's gotta be of him pointing at a team mate to cover space as he himself is running full sprint. It must happen a dozen times a game at this point. Ironically he's almost always in the right spot at the right time after concerns earlier in his career that he was a bit of a "headless chicken".

I'm a homer, but I think they'd contend for a top 4 spot, assuming you could add one Juve player as the "bench" I'd go with Yildiz. Top 4 contender sure.

Top half. Easy. Finisher Wes after being fed Ranch? Watch out, Inter.

If you had Wes clones + Di Gregorio and the two CBs, they qualify for the Europa League and make the CL knockout!

I've wondered how he'd do at CB, I think he'd probably be serviceable, why not? He's good everywhere else, is strong in the air, fairly fast and agile and is willing to do the dirty work.

Are you suggesting Wes can't play goalkeeper?

No chance in european places, I certainly wouldn't put any type of money in the top half finish. They certainly wouldn't be relegated though. IMO, they would finish around 11-15 with 38 goals scored and 50 goals conceded.

Man, team of the week and high ratings are pretty nice for having spent the first 45 minutes running around like a headless chicken (no, I did not watch the game).

I also did not watch this match. I did, however, sneak into the locker room afterwards. Post-game scuttlebutt from the towel boy was that there was mistranslation and Wes was told that if he "covered ground like" a headless chicken and they got W, there was ranch and wings in it for him afterwards.

Thankfully, his manager understands that Wes needs to be kept hungry, and denied that's what he said in Italian after Wes' match winning performance. Excellent man management if you ask me.

Headless chicken? I'll take it as long as it's under a brick!

@glutton4Bolts was spot on, he was not good in the first half playing in the double pivot. He would leave Locatelli alone centrally during the buildup trying to find pockets of space and runs further up the field. When Thuram came in and Wes moved wide, he was great again. He has such great attacking instincts, he was limited in that type of CM role. Thuram wasn't fit to play the full 90 and Spalletti doesn't trust Koop so Wes does what he always does and fills a need, but was much better in the second half in his best roles IMO.

I don't know how that will help us this summer, but he is ready for it!

Agreed. It is informative in some ways though. You can see a right wing back who does not get all the way forward (to the corner flag) and a center midfielder who spends little time in the boxes. Tracks with the commentary!

If it helps, Wes started the game in the double pivot with Locatelli. At the half, Spalletti moved him to RWB after Holm needed to be replaced due to injury concern. For the last 10-15 minutes, he moved over to LWB when Cambiaso was replaced by Gatti (moving Kalulu to RWB and Gatti RCB). It kind of explains the heatmap in my opinion.

the first half of the Friday Serie A match is looking good for Juve's CL hopes: Napoli is crushing Como 3-0

If Napoli can keep a clean sheet and put away a fourth, Como will be 5 points off Juve and equal on goal difference (not that GD matters, I think h2h is the first tie-breaker, and Como won both ties 2-0)

edit: wow, held Como to 0 shots in the first half too... taking them to the woodshed tonight!!
