He was blocked from seeing what the reach did. What I don’t understand is that Bastoni didn’t show backward movement like he was grabbed he fell forward like he was tripped. I wish he would get a 3 match ban for that…
One of the worst parts of the debacle was the celebration from Bastoni after he sold the dive. He acted like he scored a goal or had a crucial block in front of goal... but in fact, he was celebrating his cheat and the inevitable probability that it would secure his team 3 points. It's confusing to hear some announcers give credit to players for fooling refs... the whole "dark arts" commentary. It puts shame on the sport in my eyes... They do indeed need to punish players for moves like this. Dude is a total D-Bag in my eyes.
But it happens all the time by all sorts of players - including ours - especially in the box. Even with punishments handed out, it's going to be tough to eradicate this from the sport. It's part of the game, like it or not. Just because he pulled off a world class dive, not sure it makes him a total db (although have no clue if this guy is frequently doing this stuff). Doing cheap shot things that hurt players is much worse.
Within the last handful of games Yildiz got a yellow for diving. Refs need to be more consistent. I think Bastoni's dive is getting so much attention because of how big of a game it was, how aggregious the dive was, the stupid rule that VAR can't check second yellows, the fact that Bastoni pleaded for the yellow (yellow card in of itself) and because Bastoni celebrated the yellow card on his opponent like he had scored a game winning goal. For all that, Bastoni, is in fact a D-bag. If people are being honest, no one likes diving in sports. It's cheating and there should be more efforts to rid it from the game. Of course you can't get rid of it completely but that shouldn't stop rule makers from trying.
✍🏻 Gli 1️⃣1️⃣ titolari selezionati da mister Spalletti per il big match di questo pomeriggio in Turchia 📜#UCL #GalatasarayJuve pic.twitter.com/E9Eeh3DDGR— JuventusFC (@juventusfc) February 17, 2026 McKennie starts in the Champions League, away to Galatasaray. Listed as a forward?
David picked up a groin injury of some ilk in training over the past couple days (revealed at yesterday's presser), Vlahovic is still injured, and Openda... uh... kinda sucks
This Wes Mckennie assist is beautiful. His best skillset has always been his presence and playmaking around the box. Spalletti has deployed him so well this season. pic.twitter.com/SGQ0gpgIUm— USACFC (@USACFC_) February 17, 2026 I think its easy to underappreciate how tough that pass is because Wes makes it look so so smooth. Really nice assist!
Talk about a game of two halves... Juve went toe-to-toe in the first half and came away with a 1-2 lead. Match ended at 5-2 and Juve with 10 men. Plus, both Cabal and Cambiaso are out of the reverse fixture, meaning Juve will have to adjust their formation even if David is healthy enough to play. Rough day. Might be too tall an ask to make up the 3 goal deficit. Wes looked as good as one can look while chasing the game down a man.
No one likes it when it's not their team - it's funny how announcers sometimes extol players who stay on their feet and sometimes say they should have gone down as that would have been a penalty. Is there honor in trying to stay on your feet and miss out on a possible PK? I'd be for harsher penalties for diving - but it's a hard one to get right. And diving is just part of the game - I have a hard time getting upset about Bastoni doing something that CP does and almost all very good players do. Thierry Henry in MLS was so good about doing all sorts of dirty crap while making it look unintentional. It's hard to litigate something where players can claim it was unintentional. Is celebrating worse than pretending he got shot?
Also, gotta stress how 2 of the 5 goals were self-inflicted wounds. Cambiaso throwing-in to Yildiz, who was inside his own box. Thuram and Kelly offering the ball to Oshimen inside their own box. The reverse fixture looks much better at 3-2 than 5-2...
During the past 20 years… Stu Holden’s 2010-2011 season was outstanding until the middle of March. Bradley’s 2007-2008 season was spectacular, albeit at a lower level.
I've come to the conclusion he might be better off moving on. He can get paid more at Inter or Atletico or ____ and still maintain his career trajectory as a key player on a UCL top 16 type club. Juve are just a mess. They have no finances to bring in the 3-4 guys they would need to improve and they've low balled Weston.
Overreaction on bastoni. Every player celebrates getting the opponent sent off. Lol It's unfortunate but that's too bad
I disagree on this point. They have the finances but they continue to spend on the wrong players. Joao Mario for $13 million, now loaned out, Nico Gonzalez for $29 loaned out. Kelly for $18 Million and he's trash. Openda never plays, Zhegrova never plays. David is garbage. I could go on and on....
I watched a lot of Bolton that year. Believe they were as high as 7th at one point. But I put Wes’s current season a tier above. Top Italian side and doing it in UCL.
