Ben, Did you have plans on getting a similar crew together for the San Jose match in San Jose? The game is on May 1st (one month from today) and all we really need is 5 people to out cheer the entire lot of em. Anyone interested? james
Re: California Road Trip - DC v. San Jose Last year i outcheered the entire sunny side by myself. Those 'fans' sat on their hands and looked at me aghast that I could shout that Landon is a diver and a pussy. Its like they never been to a soccer match before.
Re: California Road Trip - DC v. San Jose I doubt we can get a group rate in San Jose. That's just easier to do in LA. But ticket prices are lower at Spartan so it doesn't have the same sort of imperative. Anyway, I should be there.
Re: California Road Trip - DC v. San Jose Well, I guess a small caravan could be aranged. That would probably be the only way I could get up there. Anyone interested in going let me know. Once we guage interest then we can go to the next step. Anyone know of a place to crash? james
Re: California Road Trip - DC v. San Jose Well I might be able to convince DCU, and Bird lives up there. I don't know if there's anyone else there currently. I'll poke around and see if I can't find a few more names.
Re: California Planning Thread/Road Trip :: DC United vs San Jose :: 5/1 There have been rumblings about a relatively large group from DC making the trek out for this one... It might happen, it might not.
Re: California Planning Thread/Road Trip :: DC United vs San Jose :: 5/1 If that's the case then we should probably get cracking on group tickets. Any sense on when the decision will be made?
Re: California Planning Thread/Road Trip :: DC United vs San Jose :: 5/1 No, but I'll talk to some folks at the match.
Re: California Planning Thread/Road Trip :: DC United vs San Jose :: 5/1 I'll see if I can't call the Quakes today and find out the group ticket situation.
Re: California Planning Thread/Road Trip :: DC United vs San Jose :: 5/1 Shocking! I called the Earthquakes and was put on hold. After too many minutes I hung up. Anyway, here's the group ticket page: http://store.yahoo.com/sanjose/groups.html Here's the stadium information: http://www.sjearthquakes.com/tickets_merch/stadium.htm Yellow sections have seats, blue sections have benches (no backs), red sections are where the Casbah sits. I've been in 130-134 before and it's not too bad. If anyone else wants to give the ticket reps a call (and has more patience for being on hold than me) here's the number: 408-985-GOAL
Re: California Planning Thread/Road Trip :: DC United vs San Jose :: 5/1 ... bump ... So a few people at the LA game yesterday expressed interest in attending the Quakes game on the first. I'll be there, maybe morrissey, maybe Freestyle2000. Anyone else interested? It's often hard to get a group rate up in San Jose - we just don't have the numbers there that we've got in Southern California. But ticket prices aren't so bad there even at the regular rate. Remember, it only takes a few of us to out-shout all the Quakes fans.
Re: California Planning Thread/Road Trip :: DC United vs San Jose :: 5/1 Anyone besides me and morrissey going? What about you Bird?
Re: California Planning Thread/Road Trip :: DC United vs San Jose :: 5/1 ... chirp ... chirp ... chirp ...
I live up in Oakland. Plan to go to a few Quakes games this season (as soon as I get a car/way to get there/consistent work schedule). But this one I definately want to make. I'll be there.
[Tweet] Sorry for the delayed reply, must have missed this thread when it first went up (been out of town). I will definitely be there and have tix already. The word out to Quakes season ticket holders last week was that tickets were selling better than expected. Given that they only got 8300 for the opener against Chicago, however, I doubt there will be any problems unless there's a big group that wants to sit together. The stadium is pretty small, and they almost never open up the upper deck, so sight lines aren't really a problem. In past years, we have gotten the cheapest seats available on the east side for the season or partial season and then moved around depending on our mood. Last year, that meant tix in 133/134, but this year all tickets on the east side are the same price for single games. There have only been few games when we've had a problem moving around (playoffs mostly last year). When there is a big group of opposing team fans at Spartan (e.g., the Galaxians), the ticket office usually allows them to sit together in the southern part of 134 and 135.
okay, rollcall... if there are any peoples making the trip from LA I am in. So... Me - if there is a carpool option. james
I'm in. But I'm quite likely no good for a carpool. I'm probably going to make something of a long weekend out of this and visit my family for a couple days before and after the game. I'd suggest either 1) getting tickets in 133 or 134, or 2) risking that tickets won't be a problem on matchday, meeting up for a tailgate and just getting tickets at the gate. Actually the tailgating business should probably be done either way.
Last year we were in 134, but the guy I get seats with may have moved us towards the middle since they changed the pricing for seats on the east side. Will let you know -- I somehow managed to misplace my tickets and will have to search around for them today. Hopefully, Mrs. Bird didn't toss them away by accident. [/Pushes panic button]
Check on those seats. I often get tickets in 134 anyway, but if you're there I'll see if I can't make a point of it. I'm debating whether I should get them before the day of the game. They're expecting a bigger than usual crowd ... the question is whether that means anything in San Jose. Is anyone else going to show up?
... bump ... Looks like it's just me and Bird, I guess. You'll be there, Bird, right? Anyway, I'm probably going to recruit two friends from the Bay Area to attend. It'll be their first MLS game ever.
O.K., after tearing my house apart with no success this weekend and tearing my office apart with no success yesterday, the missing tickets were located in the crack between the front seats of my car (along with some spare change and a few other objects that I won't describe). And there was much rejoicing at the Bird household. As predicted, friend's seats are closer to the middle for the season with the changes in ticket prices, so it looks like I'll be halfway up in 131. I think your safe getting tix on the day of game. While this one apparently is selling better than usual, day games at Spartan are always sparse. And, to make things worse for the Quakes, if the Sharks don't win tomorrow night and sweep the series against the Avalanche, they'll drop the puck at the Shark Tank at noon on Saturday. They only drew 8,230 against Chicago in the home opener under even better circumstances. This will be a true test of the mystical powers of the young Mr. Adu. Only time will tell if the soccer moms from Los Altos will turn out in droves and make up for the loss of crossover hockey/soccer fans.
I'm buying tickets at the Quakes ticket office on Friday. PM me with your seats and I'll see if I can't get something in the vicinity.
I've been away too long from BigSoccer. I'll definitely be at the match. Should I be looking for y'all in sections 133 or 134?
