For those of us who are Wes Hart fans - it's my understanding that he is currently negotiating a deal with San Jose and he is almost assured of gaining a contract with them. I for one am happy that he will be staying in the MLS and look forward to seeing him play in the future.
I had thought that he and the Rapids could not agree on contract issues....the team had announced that since that was the case, and all contracts in MLS are done thru the league, he could not therefore sign with another MLS team??
Legend is correctomundo, at least going by what Counce and the Rapids believe to be the case. The team's current understanding is that if he is to play in MLS, Hart remains committed to Colorado for 2004. From the Jan 27 Rocky (emphasis mine): http://www.insidedenver.com/drmn/rapids/article/0,1299,DRMN_51_2607046,00.html
Yes, you could probably pull that trade off. Wes Hart for a Donovan jersey. I don't know, I think San Jose may be shafted by this deal. On the serious note, I've heard some news.
"Wes Hart has been traded to San Jose for an unspecific low draft pick. " http://www.ussocceruk.com/news/?CatTypeId=2&ContentId=1381
Re: Re: Wes Hart Fans Umm, another astute move. San Jose, the defending MLS champs, get a guy who started in 27 games last year and the Rapids get a chance to pick a guy who won't make the team or be in the league. Great move Hanki and Counce. Now, I wasn't a big fan of Wes but come on, he has been in MLS for 4 years, and a starter for two. They could have at least gotten a second or third rounder for him. Christ, Fraser is almost 40 and losing it and the Rapids got a second for him. It just keeps getting better and better.
Re: Re: Re: Wes Hart Fans I don't think the Rapids had much negotiating power here. They already released him saying there were salary issues. This is just a byproduct of the MLS rule book, they had to get something but couldn't force anything too big. If SJ had come after him before he was dropped, then it'd be a different experience.
Wes Hart fans! Is there really such a thing besides his parents and his RUSH coaches? He was an average player who wanted more money in the long run so another average player that makes the league minimum will have no problem filling those shoes. Just sitting here I can think of 4 goals that were his fault alone.
As a Rapids fan, I look forward to seeing him play in the future too. "And Chris Carrieri, breaking down the right side receives a back heal pass from John Spencer. Carrieri, who was covered by San Jose defender Wes Hart, easily maneuvers the ball around, takes a shot and scores!" Hart was a very up and down player at times. His ups were fine, but usually nothing special. His downs were terrible. Obviously I'd rather get something more than a late round undetermined draft pick...maybe if Counce and Hanki hadn't ruined his value...
We already have someone who is better in should have been ROY Jeff Stewart... If San Jose is still offering that Jersey, I'll take it... PS. Counce and Hankinson are still retarded...
What About Jeff Stewart?? The last I heard in this forum, Jeff Stewart had suffered an injury in rehabilitation and was out for who knows how long. Of course, we could never find out anything about this on the Rapids site. Can anyone tell us the current status of Jeff? It would be great to have Jeff step in for Wes, but will he have to use crutches???
Midfielder IMO - Wes Hart will do OK (off the bench) as a defensive mid in the MLS, he was very inconsistent at right back.
San Jose has some magic powers to turn a scraper from other teams into a National Team pool player. Example? Manny Lagos, Romario Caralls, Brian Mullan, and Brian Ching. Wes Hart is the next.
Tell you what- I think Wes Hart is already good, and I'm really glad he's come to San Jose. But then again, I liked Mike Burns.
That's okay. Against DMB, we'll start Craig Waibel instead. He's like a corner flag, if a corner flag was five feet wide, made of concrete, and had big rusty chunks of rebar sticking out of it.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Wes Hart Fans They did have one negotiating ploy: they didn't have to trade him. The could have told SJ they wanted a higher pick or he plays in the A-League. They didn't have to basically give him away. When you hold someone's rights, you have ALL the negotiating power.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Wes Hart Fans I'm sure SJ would have said, "fine, we don't really want him anyway."
