This seems a little odd. http://www.mlsnet.com/content/03/kc0611santos.html I guess we needed something to do to fill up the 14 days between matches. Maybe we're helping KC out since they jobbed for us in the USOC last year.
By the way, here's the relevant info from mlsnet: On July 12th, Kansas City will then host a doubleheader at Arrowhead Stadium on Budweiser Hispanic Heritage Night with Santos squaring off against MLS’ Columbus Crew at 4:15 p.m. CT. That match will be followed by the Wizards regular season contest against the Dallas Burn at 7:00 p.m. CT.
Even though I'm pretty sure it won't be our best squad out there against Santos, I like the idea. This doubleheader creates an event-type atmosphere, perfect for showing people what MLS has to offer.
Arrowhead is actually the only place I've ever seen a Crew away game, and 20 bucks sounds like a decent price for a double header. My main concern is that the Crew will be "mailing this one in". The Confed Cup boys will surely need a break after all those games in such a short period of time. When does the Gold Cup start? Will McBride, Garcia, and company already be gone? Looks like Akwari will be going the full 90!
Just when it looked like the Crew would get some much needed rest, we have to go play an exhibition in the middle of July in the middle of the country. Did you see the time listed for the match, 4:15 local time. Its going to probably be a scorcher. So its either start our "A" team and drain our starters, or possibly look bad with a "dial it in" lineup. It is partly a good idea as a doubleheader, but playing extra games after our marathon start has me a bit worried.
if they're gonna schedule a game during 14 days off in order to keep the boys fit, fine. schedule it. but not 660 miles away. It's KC. Soccer fans in KC want to see their Wizards. Just like Columbus soccer fans want to see the Crew, not DC against some foreign team. hopefully santos don't hack as much as some of the other mexican teams.
Real easy. Just stay on I70 until you see the stadium on your left. In fact, I went to Colorado for spring break a few years back, and we drove back and passed the stadium during a Wizards match (1999 - we also stopped on the way to watch Ohio State lose to UConn in bball at a sports bar in Kansas). I was unsuccessful in convincing the rest of the gang to stop and take in the match.
The Hunts operate the Crew, Wizards and Burn. Kansas City is having Hispanic Heritage Night on July 12 and needs to draw a big crowd. The Wizards figure it will be Santos, who they also play four nights earlier in Houston. from dispatch (6/12).. Sounds like there's going to be double-headers at most of the Hispanic Heritage nights around the league.
If you're going to rip off someone's work, shouldn't you at least give them credit? Oddly, your post sounds like something I read in today's Dispatch.
Perhaps, maybe that's the reason Krypt put "From Dispatch (6/12)" under that line. Good work on selective reading however. It's pure crap that the Crew have to play a friendly against a Mexican team on their first week off. Hell they're hurting now and who knows what's going to happen with that a month from now. Plus our best players will be away with the Gold Cup squad anyway. I say play all the DPs and call Lapper, Warz, and Yeags out of retirement for one game.
Ah, but Kryptonite didn't have any of that when he first posted...just like your post was one paragraph until I clicked the quote button and got the edited version.
Team USA starts the Gold Cup vs. El Salvador in Boston that very day. I imagine that the Crew will be at least 4 players short for the match with Santos.
Crew vs "Mexican Team" has been on the Wizards schedule from before the start of the season. I guess you guys just didn't know about it. We've just been wondering who the Mexican team would be. This will be the third straight year that Santos Laguna will travel to KC. They were the most awesome green/white and green/black hoop jerseys. If you guys wear yellow, and the Burn wear red, it could be very colorful indeed. Unfortunately, I expect the Burn to have their all-white kits on.
