Or Arteta’s being a coach promoted way about his capabilities. The “.. he worked with Guardiola …” backstory conveniently omits that the later works best when backed by a well-resourced board.
yep. if Arsenal hired Guardiola to take over when Arteta did, the first thing he'd do is demand 150 mill for upgrades. edit 5-0 now.
he was done. But the appointments thereafter didn’t work at all. Didn’t give Emry a chance and then anointed Arteta as the Pepsavior
https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...ust-what-is-that-manchester-united-see-in-him Three years ago, Juventus paid £100m for a 33-year-old and gave him a basic salary of £26.6m a year, a deal that must rank as one of the worst in history. Ronaldo was signed to take Juventus, who had lost in two Champions League finals in the previous four seasons, to European glory. Instead they lost in the quarter-final to Ajax, then in the last 16 to Lyon, then in the last 16 to Porto. Juve had won seven scudetti in a row before Ronaldo arrived. They won it again in their first two seasons with him, but finished fourth last year. He scored 81 league goals in three seasons, but Ronaldo made Juventus a worse football team. Not only has his relative immobility, his reluctance to contribute to the press – he was in the bottom 2% of forwards in Europe’s top five leagues in terms of pressures per 90 minutes last season – held Juve back tactically, but the money spent on him has weakened the rest of the squad. There is a reason Juve were so willing to offload him now. Ronaldo will, almost certainly, score goals, but goals were not a problem for United. Last season they were the second-top scorers in the Premier League, and scored more than anybody else in their Champions League group, but still finished second. They already have a highly gifted thirtysomething goalscorer in Edinson Cavani. Their problem is constructing the attacking moves that can overwhelm stubborn defences. Ronaldo will not help with that and it is hard to see how he will fit tactically; United have admitted they never expected Juve to sell and so he was not part of their plans.
They PLAN? Just keep buying high priced players until they overwhelm with talent is not a plan but it does work, see RM, Barca, and City for examples. Liverpool and the to main German clubs, Bayern and BL are about the only clubs that sign players to a 'plan' and have top level success.
Fundamentally, Arsenal lack competent leadership on and off the pitch. Their problems lay with their entire football structure as none of them are qualified for the job. IMO they should hire the entire Ajax team; Van de Saar, Overmars, and Ten Haag. Especially with the young talent they have. They have spent 200m + renewals and IMO, haven’t spent poorly from a squad building perspective. 50m for Ben White when you have Saliba? Arteta should be fired just for how he’s treated him…and Guendouzi. Lokonga (sp?) seems to have good potential (as do many in their squad) but in place of Odegaard - Bissouma or Nditi would have suited them better. Their business last season was dreadful - including most of their contract renewals.
Emery was shabbily treated. The man is a winner and with proper support would have got Arsenal to be challenging for, at least, top four by this season.
Watching Rangers-Celtic...cracking game. Don't know who the announcers but they're great, when I can understand what they're saying. I think they're both former strikers - there was one great exchange after Celtic missed a great chance when the striker shot instead of passing it across the goal to a wide open teammate..."he absolutely should have passed it..would have been an easy goal. Be honest, would you have passed it? 'No'.
when those bums on the bench cost you millions of quid, and you spend millions a year taking care of their health and wellbeing ... pine doesn't do it any more. you're welcome ..
I watched quite a bit of the Betis/Madrid game yesterday afternoon. they have a very nice stadium. not sure if it was the quality of the ESPN stream, but my son thought all of the green looked really weird. the whistling is very annoying to listen to during La Liga games.I realize it is part of the culture, but I can’t imagine being in the stadium with that going on - let alone a full one. At least I can mute it at home.
