Double victory for our teams today in a pair of friendlies. In the first match we won 3-1 versus 1860 Munich. Di Santo got the scoring started connecting in the opening minutes. I'm liking Ujah more and more now with the many ways that he contributes to build up of attacks. He was heavily involved in several successful plays. It was also particularly an encouraging display from two youngsters working to make the first team roster, M.Eggestein and Grillitsch who both scored as well. Pavlovic got a start in central defense. He's improved steadily after returning from loan in Hungary. He could be a good wildcard option for the defensive rotation. Second match, we won 4-0 against a selection of players from the Tyrol area in Austria, where training camp is taking place. Goals in this one were by Oztunali, Makiadi, Hajrovic, and Grillitsch (again). As I continue to follow his progress, Grillitsch reminds me more of Aaron Hunt and the way he has that scoring instinct while operating from the midfield. Aycicek was missing today though due to thigh problems. While Bargfrede had to be replaced because of knee problems.
With his celebration dance moves and (sometimes) unorthodox golazos, Franco has already established himself as quite the Bundesliga legend.
Good chance that Ulisses Garcia will make the senior team on opening day as Santi Garcia is still recovering from injury
What a guy! After 18 days of hard work, is always good to have a bit of relax... Hahaha I love you my friends!!! 😋👍 #svw #fds9 pic.twitter.com/g5HJy4BmRZ— Franco Di Santo (@fdisanto9) July 18, 2015
http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/...tein-und-grillitsch-wollen-selke-beerben.html Maxi Eggestein and Florian Grillitsch continue to make a strong impression as this year's standouts at this summer's training camp. Both talents are poised to make an impact in the near future. Director Rouven Schröder's commentary on Eggestein, "His playfulness, combining strength and orientation are class. He has the vision and anticipation in advance of where the ball goes, and also moves very cleverly". Eggestein sees himself playing best in the creative role as a 10, along with the half positions in a midfield diamond formation. For Grillitsch: "He is totally fast, technically really good and has nice stealth in his movement, while always knowing where he should be". He can cover the half positions, tens or striker. Pretty much any attacking position to help the team.
2-0 win versus Czech club FC Brno. Goals by TGS and Bartels. Several other fine combination plays including great displays by Eggestein, Junuzovic, and Hajrovic.
We also decided to give Junuzovic a day-off, just to make the challenge a bit more fair for everyone else. But Hajrovic & co took care of business.
http://www.footyheadlines.com/2015/12/leaked-werder-bremen-16-17-away-kit.html The new Nike Werder 2016/17 away kit will be purple for the first time in club history. That will be the primary color to go along with white accents. A bold design is to be expected, although no details are available at this time.
Sebastian Prödl gave an interview in which he speaks about the start at Watford and that he became a Werder fan after leaving the club. He also gives his former teammates hopes by declaring that there are worse teams in the league. http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/...an-proedl_es-gibt-schwaechere-als-werder.html
http://www.ligainsider.de/sv-werder-bremen/2/werder-auf-investoren-suche-134439/ The search for an investor continues, along with a potential sale in naming rights of the Weserstadion. Energy company, EWE was an initial contact however other options are being considered. A Bremen based brewery is also mentioned, which I assume is Becks. Hopefully this time some substantial movement and progress is made.
Both EWE and Becks would be great choices I think. The club desperately needs an infusion of cash to try and stop the bleeding. It is only a matter of time before our flirtation with relegation year after year finally results in Werder going down.
Clemens Fritz announces that he will retire at the end of this season. He plans on taking a year off before returning to Werder and begin working towards a role in management. His letter to the fans: http://www.werder.de/en/profis/57665.php
Rouven Schröder being mentioned as a potential replacement for Christian Heidel as sporting director of Mainz. Eichin turns down any substance to these reports. http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/...se-an-schroeder---eichin-bleibt-gelassen.html
Rather predictable turn of events. Schröder has now informed management about Mainz's approach and asks for approval of this move, as confirmed by Eichin today. He's also their number one candidate for the job, as Heidel is expected to accept an offer from Schalke. Both parties will have a meeting this week to clarify the situation. Mainz would have to pay a transfer fee though, as Schröder is currently under contract until 2017. Gonna be a big loss for Werder, he's been a very proactive presence at the club in terms of scouting and player recruitment. Hope we're able to find someone similar to fill that role. http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/...185/artikel_schroeder-bittet-um-freigabe.html
