I have never been a Beckham basher. His main problem in Madrid, is that he is not Spanish and doesn't wanna be in Spain. He's also not a central midfielder.

We need someone who plays well on the right side, Gilberto is not the answer. Beckham plays well on the right.

He's not at ManUtd. because of Sir Alex's pride, nothing more, nothing less. Freddie had an OK season. But we had Vieira, Henry, Pires and Campbell at the top of their game all season, and Freddie isn't that caliber of player. Plus with Edu and DB10 on form, there is only so much of the ball to go around. We just didn't need Freddie the way we did in the past.

Beckham is a bit of a "one-trick pony" but as Ray Hudson said, "its a pretty good trick." Honestly, Becks would be more of a role player at Highbury, but its a role we need. He's not going to be our stud in Midfield, thats Paddy, and he's not going to be the star of the team, that's Henry. I suspect now, that he's on the other side of his career arch, playing in London with a more subdued role, would be OK with him, especially if he wants to stay married.

Finally, I don't think the cost is such a big deal. He is the one guy who pays for himself for the most part. Even high dollar footballers don't make NBA wages, 10-15 million a year in salary is as high as anyone goes. Madrid made more than that this year off the percentage of his image right he assigned them.

    that's my thought

Playing at Chelsea is a high pressure deal at this point, there's always a chance RA could have you sent off if you did poorly. I think CR has done well this year at Chelsea, especially considering his best forward, Crespo missed most of the year, and his two best midfielders, Duff and Veron, missed most of the year. They still want CR out the door, I can't imagine anyone handling it better than he did this year. With all that money at the Bridge, the pressure just seems enormous.

IMHO Wenger sees Beckham as an unneeded distraction, in terms of gossip pages, etc.

beckham and freddie have the same pace but beckham perfers to whip in a ball and freddie perfers to either pass back into the middel or run into the area with it!

beckham could suit well at arsenal - but the attention is a big no no!

p.s. i understand beckham was a gooner as a kid!
he also has a house in sawbridgworth - 30-45 mins drive from colney!

i think freddie is faster than beckham. i also see beckham as a bit lazy with his tackles. kind of that superstar work ethic

Yeah, and when was the last time you went round the M25 that quickly!!!

But seriously, Wenger has said today on Sky Sports that he really rates Beckham and would love to have him, but we havent got the money. The only thing he said about him not coming was the money. I know for a fact that Dein has said money will never be an issue with anything Wenger wants. So I am actually quite exited about this, we'll have to see, but there might be something in it.

Beckham at Arsenal? Have some people really lost it? A few years, you Arsenal fans might have spit on the floor if that sentence was said, now you're seriously considering having him.

The guy spent almost his whole professional career at Man Utd, he didn't want to leave Man Utd in the first place, and he most certainly wont go to our most bitter rivals Arsenal.

Besides, hes what? 29 now? What's the point? In my opinion Ljunberg is good enough.

don't worry, i still spit on the floor at people suggesting him coming to play for us. i think it would just be bad to have an ego as big as his and i think that he's really overrated, as are most english players

I noticed that a lot of football players live in Hertsfordshire . . . where is this area in terms of proximity to London? It seems to be a rich neighbourhood . . .

Wenger stated that Becks lives near the Colney - "he could ride his bike to training!"

Not sure the move would ever happen, and I hope it doesn't, but Beckhams work ethic is second to none.

Does that mean he's a great ball winner? No, that's not his main purpose but he runs himself stupid(er) most games. Especially when he's played in the middle.

My word, we're actually in agreement on something(lol)!

With the addition of Reyes and RVP to the squad, Beckham's lack of pace shouldn't be a problem, and the defensive side of his game is significantly stronger than FL8's! With DB10 definitely out after 2005, we need someone who can provide world class distribution. I know Bentley and RVP are being touted as the ones to do this, but, can we afford to wait for them to prove themselves? Love im or loathe im, Becks could do that for us now.

While there are some big negatives to the media circus that surrounds Britain's "new royal family" I think his media weight could actually be of benefit to us. Even though it is improving, we still don't have the profile of a Man Utd or Real Madrid, in world football, but DB7 could help raise our stock ahead of the move to Ashburton Grove.

If I was Beckham I would be looking for some stability out of my next move. I don't think Chelski can offer that? With our well established club, manager and team enviroment we could offer him an opportunity to get back to the top of his game. I don't think there is anyone in the world better than AW for bringing the best in his players?

On the other hand if Becks just wants another year or two of the big pay day, before giving up football to become a full time celebrity, then Chelski has to be the place!

fair enough. you've probably seen him a hundred times more than i have. it's just every time i have seen him play, i haven't been that impressed. i like his ability to put an 80 yard pass within inches of where he wants it, although it's in the air, which isn't our specialty, and his free kicks, but we already have henry for those. nice addition about him running himself stupider. i like to call him "special" though

    From London to Oz...
Can you just imagine his vile wife sipping chardonnay in one of the Executive Boxes at the Clock End? It's just frighteningly disgusting. Although I'd wet my pants in laughter if the old "Posh Spice is a slappa', she sleeps with Ray Parla'!" song was sung again with her there.

I'd fly in just to be in the chorus.

Beckham is a chump, and chumps go to Chelski. Besides, 14 yr-old girls with butch haircuts look better in blue than red & white, and I'm sure these are exactly the kinds of things that keep Becks awake at night when considering his career moves.

Doug, you are spot on! I love Becks, but our team chemistry is something that you just don't mess with.

Of course Wenger will say he would like to sign Beckham, what foreign manger managing a team in England would be stupid enough to say they would not sign the England captain.Your life would not be worth living the media would have a field day. This rumour first started 3 yrs ago and then went away,I hope the same happens again. He would not suit us because we play with pace which he doesn't have and secondly his one trick is a great cross well who would be waiting for it we don't play like that.It is no coincedence that Arsene signs players like Reyes and Van Persie. These are quick, mobile, and can take on players. Beckham does none of this. The sad part is that I think Beckham would rather join us.

But wouldn't Beckham signing with Arsenal cause some friction at the Beckham household? Brooklyn trains with Spurs, so I guess he'd be required to hate his old man.

Hertfordshire is a county so the equivelent of a state. It borders London directly North. The training ground is situated there. It is a mixture, but the majority of small villages and towns in the Southern Part of the county are quite wealthy. A lot of Arsenal and Tottenham players and explayers plus a whole host of celeb's live in the area. It's not Beverly Hills, but it's probably got the second biggest population of well known people after Hampstead (a part of London).

The comments coming out of Dein and Wenger sound like the remarks of a couple of wiley old poker player's, sitting with an ace in the hole! They're both saying, "We want the player, but not at any price". Looks like a pretty good strategy before sitting down at the table in Spain? And the fee wouldn't be that great if Freddie was part of the deal; we'd only need to find about £12m. Perhaps there hoping they can secure a higher % of David's merchandising rights?

It also crosses my mind that all this could've been why DB7 went to the Real in the 1st place? Sir Red Nose and ManUre would have cut Beck's throat before letting leave to come to Arsenal. Was a year in Spain the price to be paid to get to another EPL club = Us, and have Chelski muddied the waters?
