Those close to her should've stopped the song or better yet never let her do it. They are responsible for what she will be labelled now. Hope she's home schooled because she'll have plenty to hear from other kids.

I will never understand why people think they should over sing the national anthem. Let's do it like the olympics. Music only. That or keep it under 2 minutes if they must have a singer.

Who ever is picking the singers for FCD needs to stop. The last one was awful as well.

As someone that has had to do PA work the larger problem is that the PA in the stadium is very poor and they make it worse by turning it up too loud. The person singing is hearing themselves about a second late from the speakers on the east side of the field. If you've never experienced it, it is debilitating. I think you add that to someone who wants to "over sing" the song, and you've got a disastrous mix.

The club had to have heard the girl sing the song before, so I have to assume she's done it well enough at least once before… Otherwise that means that the FO is just letting people sing without trying out, and I can't believe that's the case.

Anyway, it was really, really uncomfortable. And actually worse than last week. They need to turn down the PA and give the singers some sort of ear plugs…

If the kid doesn't have a chance to rehearse, she doesn't know what she's in for, obviously. And if they're not going to do at least a run through (which would probably cost way too much to be worth it, or maybe still worth it, given last night's performance), then they need to do just the music and let the fans sing. I have yet to hear a good reason to keep having weak, over-the-top, or screeching singers sing the anthem (and I don't just mean MLS, I mean across the board in US sports). It's not supposed to be to showcase some unknown talent (or a 5 minute showcase of some known talent), it's supposed to be out of respect for our country.

Sorry for rant. Just let the fans do it.

I say bring back the guitar solo (a la Hendrix) kid from a couple of years ago for the anthem. That was pretty good.

I'm with you, just the background music is fine. Let the fans sing who want to sing. Let others just take it all in. I'm not overly patriotic though, so I'm sure others have stronger opinions.

Having had the "pleasure" of experiencing this sort of delay with a PA before, I agree that it can be terribly debilitating.

I wonder if the FO gives their singers a heads-up about that and gives them a chance to go through it a couple times the day before or the morning before or whatever, just so the singer can get accustomed to it. I can remember in the past hearing the national anthem emanating from the stadium hours before the game, so I suspect that they do.

If they did give this girl a chance to run through it a few times beforehand and her people (a.k.a. her parents) didn't take advantage of it, or if she did practice it and still sounded like that, that's on her and her parents.

An excellent idea. This is what they do at PPL Park, (and maybe some other MLS stadiums). If works well, although it didn't at the All-Star Game, because they brought in a singer and the fans singing got out of synch with her because they couldn't hear her.

For this singer-songwriter's sake, I hope her songwriting is terrific.

I blame the parents and I also vote for just playing the music and letting the fans sing.

I may have been a little wrong here. I was under the impression the length of her performance was due to the delay causing her confusion, but now that I've seen her perform it someplace else just as slowly, I do think that maybe her "style" has more to do with it. I will still contend that the PA/delay issue is still a problem…

I wasn't there for this game, but in past games I've heard the singers practicing as I walked around to Will Call to pick up tickets. The game where the PA crapped out, the beer garden started it up, and the singer eventually joined in and slowed it down, she sounded exactly (to the note and the lack of speed) the same during practice as she did for the real thing.

I can't believe that this girl didn't have time to practice beforehand, and wasn't aware of the delay. She's just that bad.

When I picked up my tickets at will call on Saturday she and her family were just walking up and they were there to do a sound check so you are right, she was just that bad.

The Musers discussed it on the Ticket this morning. FC Dallas got a mention on sports radio!! We settle for these kind of "wins" now.

Haha yes, the Bart Simpson "I don't care if it's good attention or bad attention (or incidental attention)" mentality... Perfect!

Finally, a practical use for a vuvuzela...
