Welcome to the glory that is Metro. Please read the following history lesson and tutorial, which will guide your journey as you join the club. Old schoolers who like looking at our history might want to take a look too There are 5 entries for your review, and there will be a quiz afterwards. j1m and brownswan, halfway through this manifesto/history lesson, i though of the both of you laughing your asses off at this. Cheers. I hope new supporters actually read it. I don't think they're gonna have any idea what I'm talking about for most of it though. "What's a Branco? Like the Ford truck?"
what an amazing thread, kudos and thanks. Iv been a Metro/RedBull supporter since day 1 and that was a FANTASTIC trip through memory lane and sometime a painful one reading all that stuff... great stuff!
MF occasionally does an obscure metro file, but the last thing I can find on him is that he was the assistant womens coach at the university of tampa.
And sorry for the double post but the 2010 part is beautifully written. Describes exactly how we all feel and hopefully all the new fans understand all of that.
Hello - I am a Vancouver Whitecaps season ticket holder. I look forward to Thierry Henry's visit. I love the MLS. Please can you purchase the rights to the name "New York Cosmos". Of course the jersey sponsor would continue to be "Red Bull", playing at "Red Bull Arena". People are jaded that the team is named after the sponsor = empty seats at the finest new soccer stadium in North America. I would think twice about buying season tickets for the Vancouver Pepsi. By re-branding the team, the Cosmos brand could be leveraged with the Red Bull brand to form a new synergy. Think of the nationwide media opportunities.
how about not talking out of your ass about something you obviously know less than nothing about. bye.
Do you know who held the rights to that brand, and how? Do you know what he was asking, and that he sold the rights last August? And to whom? I've been told that Red Bull did make some effort to purchase the Cosmos brand but those talks didn't go far at all. I've no idea what they would have done with the name. Retire it for good? Use it for the team? Use some of the iconography and claim the titles as the team's own? Sell retro Cosmos jerseys? No idea. For whatever reasons, Red Bull wouldn't pay Pinton's ransom. An ex-Tottnumb guy has, and he has sketchy plans for a clothing line and an "inspirational travel team" - that will one day be a proper competitive team, presumably in MLS. Now if Garber gets his way and the twentieth MLS franchise is NY2, would the owner-operators of said franchise partner with Kemsley [spit] just in order to assume the Cosmos identity? Again, a question of if the ransom will be paid. Maybe they'd rather call NY2 Mets FC than pay his price. Who knows? Lots and lots of contingencies. The Red Bulls fanbase is essentially the same as the Cosmos fanbase. We haven't won a top-flight championship since 1982. The Cosmos were like a supernova. These trophy-less years for NY soccer fans have felt like karmic retribution for the excesses of the Cosmos era. With our beautiful new Cathedral to the Beautiful Game and the best player in the league, the stars are aligned to outshine the glory days of the past. NY soccer fans are at long last enjoying a Bull market.
There most likely will never be an NY3, so if NY2 doesn't take up the Cosmos name, the value of that ransom will drop considerably. In any case, Metro or Bulls is worth more to me.
