I have never heard of this guys to be honest,
I have never watch a NE game unless they play vs the Goats
Can anyone tell us more about this player?
what do you think he will bring to our club other than EXPERIENCE

Why do you think we made that moved? ( other than Gavin was never healthy and could not take his game to the next level)

    wellcome Joseph Sharlie ;)

    replacement for an injured Minda?

I hope Chicago is picking up most of his salary, he is older and Minda was a beast before he got injured. This guy seems to have his best days behind him but seems like a solid player.

I like Gavin, he was on his way to R.O.Y. until he got injured the 1st time. It just hasn't panned out for him, a change of scenery might be what he needs.

Awesome move. Zemanski was a little over his head the last two games.

Shalrie is from New England, not Chicago and they picked him up to held in the on-field/off- field leadership department. The team does have some talented, young players but who is going to lead them?

Trading for other team's captains ( Califf with Philly and now Joseph with NE) has been the idea: gather a group of older, more experienced players to help guide the youngsters in personal and professional matters.

    Ummm kind of overpaid imo...
He does have experience and was a damn good Dmid a couple of years back, but he is old and is getting paid a pretty hefty size of money, i guess they felt they needed someone in there who could hold the fort down while Minda was out however long that may be.

    Hopefully it works out.

He is a beast. Not only has NE used him as a Defensive Mid but they also have used him as an Attacking Mid and Striker successfully. Anywhere you put him he has performed and performed well. Mind you, that was a couple years ago but if we can work the same magic here that we did with Angel when he arrived we're looking at an awesome pick up.

wait, dont we need to score more goals?
i understand giving up gavin and getting joseph, but he doesnt fill a need.

i also feel that people are being swayed by the recognizable name and not seeing the big picture.

He fills the need of Minda, who is currently injured. Plus he is versatile. New England used him primarily as a defensive midfielder, but he can also be used as a midfielder, attacking midfielder, and even striker if need be. Plus he is 6'3"...

Our midfield at this moment can't break through in the final 3rd, final ball is poor, our composure in midfield is erratic, no physicality in the midfield. Minda is also out for a while. I'm not saying he's going to play strictly dmid, but a calming, physical presence is needed.

Shalrie can help us with these issues. He's not going to get pushed off the ball going forward, can score with his head, 6'3, can poach goals, has been in 3 MLS Cup finals, he's a leader. He's great going both ways.

It's not like our strikers have had many scoring opportunities going forward. Our strikers have been starving and running with their head cut off "a lo pendejo". The 2012 season has been yet another "goals by committee" season.

Shalrie has a known name in MLS because he has been consistent, maybe not so much this year. He's known more for his play on the field than a white glove or funky colored hair style.

So True. Possession leads to scoring opportunities.

i agree with most of what you posted (shalrie should help w/his physicality and calm presence bringing the ball up), but then again we all know he's lost a step is best suited as a d-mid (and even then isnt as sharp laterally).
and while i agree that gavin wasnt exactly panning out and that nabbing joseph for him was acceptable, we're essentially loading up our midfield with defensive mids or weak/small creative mids. a creative attacking mid that could hold his own like grazzini would've been perfect (if only he didnt head back to arg)

hate to be a pessimist, but i expect more of the same with this signing. we just look better on paper.

This! And possession was never our problem since we do that pretty damn good IMO, it's our attacking and finishing that seems to have been our major problem that has yet to be fixed; we have players that should be running up the scoreline when we face certain teams and yet when ever they come near the final 3rd/or reach it they try to pass the ball right into the back of the net instead of just taking the shot on goal. Joseph is one player that has no problem take a shot from outside the 6 yard box we have all seen him do it before, if he see's the goalkeeper sleeping on the job he will punish him for it that is one of the things I like about Joseph he has major swagger and is not afraid to take a shot on goal plus he is rarely caught out of position.

Only problem I have with him is his age, does he still have enough in the tank to produce when it matters? I guess we will find out come El Super Classico, I know I do not want a repeat performance of the last Classico because that was simply embarrassing.

I would guess at this point Shalrie's better suited to a more advanced position, where he can help the balance of possession, play balls behind the defense, and crash the box for headers. His loss of speed has hurt his defensive presence somewhat. NE were normally using Clyde Simms as the main defensive midfielder this year.

It looks like over the season, your midfielders with the most minutes are LaBrocca, Zemanski, Smith, Minda, Cardozo, and Bolanos. Between them, they have about 23,000 career minutes in MLS, 23 goals, and 30 assists, if I can still do math on a hefty dose of Benadryl. By coincidence, Shalrie all by himself has about 23,000 career minutes in MLS, but his offensive stats are better: 37 goals, 34 assists. He may have slowed down in several senses but he still has 3 assists this year. He's definitely not a purely defensive midfielder.

It seems to me this trade was mainly about NE throwing in the towel on making the playoffs this year, and Chivas in contrast deciding to go for it. Your team has a long ways to go but I hope they will make things interesting...

Revs fan here, catching up on the Shalrie trade and I couldn't help read the thread on Shalrie here as he's my favorite rev all time. You've got yourselves an experienced leader, great locker room guy and an absolute gamer for the playoff run. He will be a fan favorite in no time. Good luck the rest of the year ('cept in Foxboro!).

But please, don't ever confuse New England with Chicago!!
