Didn't hear Ozul, they lied. Wilshere is training in his local park at the moments and it open to offers hom and abroad, but will take his time to get the right club.
Yes and no. No because it wasn't that Ozil expressed himself about what is going on in China. Yes because of the effect in which China was offended and stopped showing Arsenal matches in which Ozil was featured. This was cost Arsenal TV money in Asia which is a huge market. I heard it was roughly over £5 million loss for every match not shown. Which in a way brings me to this: Did Ozil ever mention anything about Myammar and what was happening there? I am 99.99999% sure if Ozil had mentioned Myammar instead of China, we would not be having this conversation. Even in Indonesia where there is resentment towards China(even towards Indonesian-Chinese) has cooled off on news about what China is doing with Muslims.
I feel safe in saying that figure is incorrect. Even if just for home games 5 million per match would be 95 million from China alone. Thanks to Swiss Ramble's copious knowledge of club finances we know Arsenal isn't getting that kind of money from sources outside of Premier League TV money, gameday receipts, or primary sponsorships. If they were then the likes of Madrid and ManU would be making 3 x that, which would suggest China was paying a hundred million every weekend to see the top 20 or so clubs, which I can't see happening.
The Chinese TV deal is no where close to being 5 million a game. China not showing an Arsenal game basically has no effect on the club outside of limiting our audience and potential to grow the fan base. Maybe in the future they would re-negotiate a lower rate because they won't show the 5% of games featuring us, but the network in China that had the premier league rights were a bunch of bums who hadn't paid over 100m in fees over a long period of time, and the league had to take the rights away. Also, why would you black ball Ozil 9-10 months after his comments? Ozil continued to play, and often start, in almost every game from the moment he made those comments until lockdown. If you are making decisions based for off the field reasons, you would yank him out of the squad back in mid-December. The Athletic just released a story stating that leaving Ozil out is saving 35k a game. Sure that is not a huge amount relative to what we shell out on transfers, but for a club that went as far as cutting Gunnersaurus, who probably makes less 50k a year, saving that little bit of money makes sense. Now if Ozil was the player he was 3-4 years ago, we wouldn't care about saving that 1m this season, he could insult Xi or Kroenke himself if he was going to make an important contribution to our quest for top 4. You register Ozil only after you have registered everyone else you want in the squad, and there is still room.
I think this largely depends on the managers style of play. If you are a defense first manager, then maybe. If you are an offense first manager, then no. Personally, I’m not sure I’m down with a one nil to the Arsenal, for a team that is averaging 8 shots per game. I prefer flowing attacking soccer to structured patterns, especially when those patterns aren’t yet producing many scoring opportunities.
He is the guy who plays when Bellerin doesn't start. We should have never signed him, but Arteta clearly sees him as the #2 RB. Our players just aren't good enough to play a flowing attacking game. Maybe that changes if we sell Pepe and Laca next summer, and have players in the front 3 who can receive the ball under pressure and retain possession, but right now we are forced to be a highly structured counter-attacking team to cover up for our deficiencies.
Isn’t it a little ironic that you don’t register a player who can receive the ball under pressure and retain possession, when that’s the perceived problem.
My problem with the argument that they have no place for Ozil in the squad is they clearly structured the squad that way because they already decided to omit him. You don't get to the end of the window and realise you have no space for your star player
It all makes sense when you consider that Arsenal made 55 staff redundant to save maybe £2,000,000 per year and recently added Gunnersaurus to the redundancies.
What do players not in the 'squad' actually do now? Do they show up and train every day, train with the Academy, on their own, or are on gardening leave??
So far, Özil and Socrates have been training with the first team as normal, but I can’t imagine that it’s realistic for that to continue for an entire season.
Very prominent article in today's NYTimes by Rory Smith & Tariq Pania. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/26/sports/soccer/mesut-ozil-arsenal-china.html Seems a fairly even and at times sympathetic view of Mesut, at least the theory that his problem began with his tweet last December about the Uighars situation. But it also paints the picture as sad breakdown in a relationship, and one that coulda/shoulda been avoided. Some closing segments:
His reluctance to leave was explained when we learned about the £8m loyalty bonus. Unless Arsenal were willing to pay a significant percentage of his weekly salary and there is no evidence this was ever a part of any transfer speculation, if he had agreed to a transfer this summer, he would probably have been leaving in excess of £10m to £15m on the table. Not to many people would make that decision, especially if they believed they had a chance to work their way back into the starting lineup. BTW Koscielny has been quoted as saying he doesn’t believe it is a training issue: https://dailycannon.com/2020/10/mesut-ozil-in-training/
The venn diagram of the people who believe in the tooth fairy and the people who believe what the club is saying about Ozil is a circle.
Mesut Özil is Helping to Provide 1,400 School Meals Per Day in North London The Arsenal midfielder has been paying for meals for charities and shelters since March but this week expanded it to schools.
As someone with no stake in the situation (forza Milan), it's been interesting to read the last few pages of this post after seeing Ozil having been dropped and the Rory Smith NYT piece. Based on what I've read, my takeaways are that 1) Arteta put himself (or was put) in the middle of this mess and comes out looking like an ass; 2) the club look like ham-fisted, vindictive clowns who threw (or may have thrown?) their newly-anointed manager under the bus; and 3) Ozil himself may be difficult, but he comes out looking like a sympathetic victim of the club's bumbling management. As an outsider, it's sad and also entertaining, and I hope my club take this as a lesson on what not to do.
That’s a good joke, but for real the people who believe Arteta and the club on this are largely the ones who complained about Özil even when he was in the middle of a several-year stretch of the greatest creative seasons ever recorded.
No question. Meanwhile, Özil was very frequently running farther, sprinting more often, and clocking higher top speeds than anyone else on the pitch. He lazy, tho.
