Weezer just issued a deluxe edition of The Blue Album and a dvd. The deluxe Blue Album has a second disc with various b-sides, unreleased and live songs. Here is a listing of the 2nd disc: Disc Two – Dusty Gems and Raw Nuggets 1. Mykel and Carli (b-side) 2. Susanne (b-side) 3. My Evaline (b-side) 4. Jamie (originally appeared on DGC rarities) 5. My Name Is Jonas (live b-side) 6. Surfwax America (live b-side) 7. Jamie (live acoustic b-side) 8. No One Else (live acoustic b-side) 9. Undone (previously unreleased kitchen tapes) 10. Paperface (previously unreleased kitchen tapes) 11. Only In Dreams (previously unreleased kitchen tapes) 12. Lullaby For Wayne (previously unreleased pre-production recording) 13. I Swear It’s True (previously unreleased pre-production recording) 14. Say It Ain’t So (original album mix) Almost all of these have been on the internet for a long time, but my favorite Weezer song (and I have all of them) isn't on there, so I am a little dissapointed. As for the DVD, it is suppose to have a lot of commentary and live preformances, and various outtakes.
Man oh man, Rivers is milking it. He's like George Lucas. He made two good albums, came back much later after building a legacy, released garbage, and the people ate it up. Congrats!
The sad thing is that as bad as Maldroit and the Green Album are when compared to the earlier Weezer albums, they were still some of the better albums released that year. That is not a defense of Weezer, but just a statment of how bad mainstream music is right now.
Luckily for anyone who appreciated the first two albums, Weezer is currently in the studio working with Rick Rubin on a fifth album. Rubin has been quoted saying something to the effect of "we're looking for quality over quantity" perhaps as a criticism of the last two albums? If this one isn't good I'm off the weez forever, until their next one.
