Our first scoreless draw in the league, largely thanks to LeBlanc having a killer game and neither team being able to finish a single chance.
You and me both. Couldn't have worked out any better for the Flash. Both teams needed a win to put distance between them and the middle of the pack. Now WNY has to do their part and win these next two easily winnable games.
Even more incredible that Seattle wasn't involved . Seriously though, it surprisingly came from two teams you wouldn't have expected it from.
To be perfectly blunt, Im not sure Portland would have scored if Sky Blue had left the field a couple minutes early. The Thorns offense was dreadful in the second half.
Actually, I don't credit anemic offenses. (And if Seattle was involved, fate would have found some way to give their opponent a goal.) I'm surprised that we haven't had a goalless game until today, but if I had to guess which two teams were involved, PORvNJ would've been one of my guesses.
Me three . Best possible result, it keeps them both within striking distance. Games being referred to as "easily winnable" makes me nervous though. They should be, but....
I assume you're talking about Kendall Johnson. U of Portland graduate. Great player who should get a shot at the WNT.
I have to agree with WPS_ and cpthomas, its money issues and/or the cap. Both Wells and Cameron were signed as one of the teams' original "free agents" and had playing time (Wells started 8 games, and Cameron played 7 and started 4). I have to assume both are higher paid (relatively speaking), and so if teams need to open cap space for new players or having budget issues, cut the high cost players. (This discussion may be better in a new thread)
I still think Cameron was as much about International slot as anything. I doubt she got a lot of money. She was undrafted coming out of college and wasnt allocated by Canada. Also, the way Seattle has trouble scoring, it's doubtful theyd release a pacey forward like Cameron unless they had to.
I like the higher salary cap as well. They need to consider two salary problems in the off season. How to up the minimum pay to a reasonable level and how interested r they in stopping their allocated players from going over seas.
I was thinking that free agents were signed before the college draft, but I have that order mixed. Was Cameron not eligible for the college draft as an int'l player? therefor had to be a free agent or discovery player. But anyhow, she was dropped for a reserve/T&T player. I am having trouble with that. Except that Seattle is also signing Cox.
Dont think that mattered as Cameron and Jaurena were on a lot of pre draft lists and Roxanne Barker got drafted after playing for South Africa. I do think money for Cox played into it tho. A lot of these problems could be solved if they just removed the money for players like Edwards and D'Augustino from the cap.
Seattle lineup: Solo, Reed, Kyle, Barnes, Dallstream, Winters, Noyola, Fishlock, Nairn, Cordner, Rapinoe WNY lineup: Franch, Sahlen, Johnson, Taylor, Reynolds, Salem, Zerboni, Lloyd, Huffman, DiMartino, Wambach
