So can someone verify the story that's going around about how NYRB traded the same 2016 draft pick twice? The first time was in the Convey deal when it was a first round suplemental pick and the superdraft was only two rounds long. Then yesterday they traded their 3rd pick in the 2016 draft - which would seem to be the same thing - to Chicago for a keeper.
Soccer hopefuls face long odds in bid to play for Republic FC -- Sacramento Bee I'm wondering how common this is:

"3rd pick?" =/= "3rd round pick" Perhaps their "3rd pick" could be within the 2nd or 4th round, or even the first round?
Looking like it: For Convey: The New York Red Bulls announced today that they have acquired former U.S. national team midfielder Bobby Convey, as well as Toronto FC's natural 2014 MLS SuperDraft second-round selection (22nd overall). In exchange, New York sent its natural 2014 MLS SuperDraft first-round pick (15th overall) and its 2016 first-round Supplemental Draft pick to Toronto FC. (At the time the Superdraft was only 2 rounds) For Reynish: The New York Red Bulls have acquired goalkeeper Kyle Reynish from the Chicago Fire in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft, the club announced today. "The Red Bulls have responded with this statement. "All trades are reviewed and approved by the league office." http://www.onceametro.com/2015/1/20/7863785/did-rbny-trade-the-same-future-draft-pick-twice So either a) NYRB is incompetent b) MLS is incompetent c) both a and b, d) NYRB had a spare third rounder that nobody knew about sitting around or e) the Convey pick has evaporated into the ether.

All they have to do is acquire a 3rd round pick in some trade somewhere within the course of 2015. Or, Ali's only there for a year, so why would he need to worry about 2016 anyway.
WWC Players End Lawsuit Sports Illustrated Colorado hosting All-Star Game MLS Soccer Opponent TBA Garber, "It's been no secret." Had to laugh.
the women did not loose on everything- while they dont get the grass, they do get a much higher grade and new turf at bc place place stadium where the semis and finals are being played this is great news for the whitecaps as the old turf- only 3 years old!!- is very beat-up and more like concrete and looks terrible on TV
If it's true, they'll probably get out of it by adding a pick at the end of the fourth round and state that the supplemental first round is NOT the third round of the SuperDraft, but a supplemental pick. While the first and second rounds of this year's SuperDraft featured traded Chivas picks, the 21st and 22nd picks of the fourth round were picks from prior 5th and 6th round picks that were traded when those rounds existed. It does look like they screwed up (unless NYRB re-acquired the pick, or picked up another in the interim), and any solution short of NYRB trading for a pick, or modifying the trade with Chicago for something else, would reveal changing definitions. But we are talking about a draft pick in the 40s/50s range at this point. I doubt anyone is going to lose sleep, but it is a chance to laugh at NYRB - or maybe the Chicago Fire - and MLS.
Seriously, whats out of place with Rapids? And we already re-imaged twice, once from green and white (7 years) to black and blue (4 years) and once from black and blue to burgundy and blue (10 seasons assuming our revealed home jersey during jersey week is those colors).
Oh, old Simpsons episode going through my mind, they're more the Slowpids than they are the Rapids. That's all I got. Sorry.
I hate when people suggest that a team needs a rebrand just because they have a couple of bad seasons. Rebranding to Colorado City FC will totally refresh the franchise and bring out the fans.

This is what I hear when Garber talks about being one of the top leagues by 2022. Obviously, MLS won't catch up to the Premier League. But if they can keep steadily growing the salary cap and improving player development at home then MLS could become the best league in the Americas only trailing the big leagues of Europe. Every league in Latin America seems to be struggling financially with teams failing to pay players and other staff. That just makes MLS more attractive to players from the Americas.
