TOP Oss a pro club based in the town of Oss, Netherlands. They currently compete in the Eerste Divisie, or the 2nd tier of Holland. Former NASL player who played for the Edmonton Drillers and the Fort Lauderdale Strikers Lex Schoenmaker (pictured below alongside George Best) used to coach them.
Fantastic article in the Athletic. A longtime English scout has written an autobiography and they interviewed him. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6696360/2025/10/08/football-scout-notes-rodri-benzema-data/ I post it here mostly because there’s a paragraph about Riqui Puig that’s interesting (the scout loved the player), but also because it’s thought provoking in terms of analytics vs. the eye test.
To add to that Oss was notorious for crime for decades: The Gang of Oss refers to a turbulent period, in which criminals from Oss committed many serious crimes between 1888 and 1934. This included 29 murders, dozens of robberies and burglaries and several hundred arson to order. The centre of this crime were the families Van Berkum, De Bie and Hendriks (alias 'de Soep'=the soup). Among the important people involved was Abraham Snabel, also known as 'Gerardus Gannef', insurance inspector and instigator of robberies committed by the gang. When the gang was rounded up in 1934, more than 160 people were arrested. Queen Wilhelmina personally decorated the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee for this action. A few years later, in 1938, Minister of Justice Carel Goseling (Roman Catholic State Party) of the Colijn IV cabinet was discredited by his decision to put the same brigade out of service because it would have exceeded its investigative powers in cases against notables and clergy, known as the Oss case. The Oss case (https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carel_Goseling) is an interesting case of crime in the upper level of society.
