Heart of Midlothian... I did it! I got one! I followed them when Perry Kitchen and Bjorn Maars Johnson played there.
Stuart95, can't thank you enough, nor too often, for continuing to post these messages during these bleak times. I look forward to these every day.
My pleasure, I enjoy the normalcy it gives and am eagerly awaiting the day when I can report on MLS games again!
I have no answers regarding the Dev Academy dealio. Obviously it's been rumored for a while but the lack of even an Inkling of what USSF intends, or not, is frustrating. Whatever it all means, the lack of consultation, discussion or transparency is so typical of the fed. Why is it so hard for them to conduct business out in the open?
Reading between the lines of The Athletic article, it sounds like closing the DA is a win for MLS. Does this mean that youth development will now be the prerogative of our professional leagues?
Here's the longer article about USSF shuttering the DA system: https://theathletic.com/1746877/202...-boys-and-girls-development-academy-programs/
How much was the Fed spending on DA? Is this financially driven or do they want to develop better players for the senior national teams via MLS, USL, and NWSL? I hope it's not simply a cost cut to settle the USWNT suit.
Idea: Show highlights of past MLS action but with novelty commentary by fans or players. Call it MLS3K!
It's official. It does seem like an amazingly hasty decision considering that a. the country has only been shut down for a few weeks and b. Parlow Cone and Whill Whilson haven't been in their jobs for much longer. It makes me suspect that COVID-19 was a timely excuse. So now MLS is in charge of youth development. That may not be a bad thing but it's an unfortunate way to come about.
