when did Pulisic score against Madrid? Has anyone else ever done it? Altidore, Rossi, others in champions league?
GK should have save Mbappe's PK, IMO. Not struck well and good height and it slipped through the gloves. You wouldn't know it by Real's play that they are down a man after a stupid Caravajal red card. They stepped it up after the red. Marseille has not.
On his way to winning the Champions League with Chelsea in 20/21. But Madrid was playing at Di Stéfano, so Weah is the first yank to score at the Bernabéu
In the Champions League SEMI-FINAL against Real Madrid first leg in 2021. Arguably the goal scored at the highest level ever by an American in club competition. Moreover, it was an away goal, back when that mattered, and en route to Chelsea winning the trophy.
Great run and goal from Timmy. I've always said the dude looks like he does American football training drills. That run he made reinforces the thought!
And Pulisic got the assist in the return match that clinched it all. His goal in the away match was amazing. Go watch it again. He just toyed with the keeper before scoring. It was nasty.
Altidore’s only La Liga goal was against Atheltic Bilbao. https://www.transfermarkt.us/athletic-bilbao_villarreal-cf/index/spielbericht/920421
Since we discuss international elibility on this board, does anyone know if Weah is eligible to be future president of Liberia? Is he cap-tied to the US?
He would need to renounce his non-Liberian citizenships and live in Liberia for 10 years, but technically he could do it.
His goal was not deflected. What are you talking about. You mean it brushed off the defender’s shoulder on the way in? We had our greatest player ever score a Champions League semifinal goal away to Real Madrid, dribbling Courtois, contributing ultimately to a Champions League victory. Please brother, find some peace in your life.
I think he already has citizenship through his dad, so he wouldn't need to renounce his other citizenships (renouncement used to be required for naturalization, but they modified this requirement in 2022 to allow naturalized citizens to hold dual nationality). According to Wikipedia he'd also need to own property in Liberia worth more than $25k and not have been born in the same country as his VP. All of this is to say: "Welcome President Weah II in the year 2036!"
He wouldn't automatically get Liberian citizenship. He has the right to Liberian citizenship if he applies.
Entirely possible, everything I've read about Liberian citizenship makes it sounds like a huge mess, with multiple laws being enforced by courts despite being out of line with the wording of the current constitution. My understanding was that children who are born abroad to a Liberian father hold citizenship by right of blood, but what you're saying would make more sense given their history.
But he would still have to apply. Cameron Carter-Vicker had the right to US citizenship but he still had to complete an application to provide evidence of his father's citizenship.
Just rewatched it. Great goal. Also toyed with Tuchel (indirectly) by celebrating 5' away with his assistant and ignoring the big boss. In hindsight, perhaps this was a contributor to the falling out. But back to Weah... Man, that was fun to watch Weah perform well and score. Great anticipation, great run, great finish.
