i dont have any problem with slide tackles. just be careful and dont do side or behind tackles. but i think the defender's reflex against shots have increased too much, and corner kicks and headers go in too easily.
how many perfect through balls have you wasted because the guy wasn't allowed to change the direction of his run? once you press the through ball button, he's locked into that path come hell or high water. why they couldn't fix this flaw from we6, i will never know. the main problem (not sure you can really call it a problem) with this game is that it's so good and so realistic, that when you do find flaws the result is that they seem so much worse. for example, the game is so smooth switching between players on offense and defense. every now and then, though, and even when you have the change cursor set completely to manual, the puter will automatically change who you are controlling defensively. this amazingly only happens when it matters most and there is nothing you can do about it. if my cursor changes from one guy to another without me pressing the button, then i'll be damned if it's manual. and furthermore, how can i ever be fully confident that it won't do it next time? doesn't stop me from playing this every chance i get, though. i think my favorite part of the game is how smooth and realistic the volleys and one-timers can be. ripping a ball from 25m is sweet!
This is my first foray into the WE/PES series. I have only played a few games so far with a friend and against the computer, and so only looked at the basic controls on the back of the directions. This game is so hard compared to FIFA! Sometimes it was hard to score in FIFA but I would always outshoot the opponent like 20 to 1 so even though some scores might be close it wasn't 'realistic.' Well, then I spent last night reading through the instruction manual. This game is so in depth and it will be a while before I get the hang of it for sure, but that will only increase the replay value. I can't wait to start a master league but that will be a ways off until I get more aquainted. So far I like this game. Like everyone says about the ball physics: they are fantastic! That is what makes the game in my opinion. Of course, after trying the Master League I'll probably have another reason.
Just a thought, but I find it interesting that a lot of the complaints listed actually are arguments on how realistic the gameplay is - stray passes, tough to tackle, hard to get space for a shot, not all players can play "skillfully", etc. I think many gamers equate realism with "not fun". Those of us who can't get enought realism in our sports sims are in heaven though!
the fact is people will never be satisfied. i mean you have to consider that this is a video game. once you can put that into perspective first then you can enjoy the game. this game is probably the most realistic game out there and if you have ever played "soccer" before then you can understand how hard it is to really score and the other neat things about this game. try playing it on the most difficult setting and then you can really see more of the realism of the game.
I have finally found a way to score! I now play in the 3-4-3 formation and score about a goal more per game. Alas, i also give up about a goal more per game but this style of soccer is much more appealing and fun to me. Psyched that i discovered this! One problem I've found that has nothing to do with realism is that I'm not really noticing the proper differences in speed. To illustrate this, I was using Brazil against Egypt on the 5 star level. I hit Ronaldo with a through ball about 30 yards away from goal with no one in between him and the keeper. Naturally i was holding the R1 turbo button, but here comes this Egyptian player catching up to and dispossessing me of the ball. I thought to myself, "i know for damn sure no one on egypt's team can catch ronaldo from behind." So then i looked at egypt's speed stats, and sure enough they were low. Therefore, they shouldn't have been able to catch Ronaldo from behind but in the actual gameplay the speed ratings don't seem to matter. I've noticed the same problem with other teams and players. Anyone else experienced this? Comments welcome.
This has always been a problem with WE (and many other sports titles as well). As you go up in difficulty settings, the CPU "cheats". Basically, its players play above their stat levels and your players play below theirs! I also saw this in previous Madden football games where at the higher dificulty levels you could throw a perfect pass to a wide-open receiver, each with great stats and the guy drops the ball 3 out 4 times.
Really there are only a few ways to make a game like this more difficult. You can either decrease the effectiveness of the "user" players or increase the effectiveness of the "com" players. How else could you make the game more difficult? I'd rather have the later be the difference then the former. Nothing would piss me off more then, when going from 3 star to 5 star, your players suddenly become unable to complete passes or hit accurate shots. Right now I'm playing on 2 star, just got the game on Sunday and I've never played WE before. When I pass the ball to a marked Van Nistelrooy he will, 3 out of 5 times, be able to push the defender off the ball and run through the middle uncontested for a 1 v 1 with the keeper. I don't suspect I'll be able to do the same on 4 or 5 star. I'll have to adjust my game to utilize passes and give and goes, in order to make up for better defending.
now my team is filled with star players and i don't have problem scoring 3 goals per game (highest is still only 5 though). basically i can dominate the entire game and the days of packing my sorry goal are now over. but still frustrated how easy the cpu scores against me. final stats of shot on goal is always like 20-2. but score is 4-2, 3-1, or even 1-2 when it's the worst. my formation is, by the way, 3-5-2. i put speedy players on both wing then cross the ball and head it in with a tall player with high ability in jumping and heading. also attempting middle range shot works once in a while especially when it deflects the opponent's defender and goes in. i love when i score on a loop shot.
i still don't see much difference in 3-star and 5-star. the same in we6. they don't make much difference to me. it's either they attack more and you have more chance on a counter or they pack their goal and you have to find a way to penetrate the d. in either level, once the cpu determines to score on you, they do score. like i said before i can beat a 5-star team 3-0 but tie the same team of 3-star. i never tried 4-star but what can i really expect? one thing i really like about this game is long balls and looping through passes work much better than those of we6
I must echo the praise of this game. I've played FIFA before and I liked it. Even though it is more of a video game and less of a simulation. However, this game just rocks. I'm still figuring out the basics and I've yet to master the tricks, but already it is a world of difference. Last night, Van Nistelrooy had the ball about 20 yards out and I decided to attempt a hard shot. The keeper punched it out, it crossed in front of a defender, who mishit the ball and it fell for an own goal. The response of the defender was priceless. After he failed to chase it down, he fell to his knees with his hands on his head, and sat there in dejection. Fantastic! So realistic! Love this game.....my wife, of course, hates it.
Since I have a modified PS2, I decided to skip on buying the US version of WE7i, and instead bought the updated Japanese version. Then with the help of pesinsight.com, patched the game. All national teams have the new Nike "Pool Ball" kits, all Euro teams have their 2004 uniforms and real adverts around the stadiums. All the names are still in Japanese hirigana/katakana/kanji though. Still waiting on the final "Wendetta" patch, which will be almost a 100% revamp of the game. The above changes, better ball graphics, shoe graphics, 100% english translation, real chants for all clubs and national teams. Lots of goodies. And yes, if WE8 has online support, with the ability to download customized roster files, online play, etc. That will ROCK. What could be fun, though bandwidth consuming, is a 16 player free for all match. 8 players per PS2. Or 20/22 seperate PS2 players in one team, etc.
why did they change the way to do the manual pass?? its annoying me. Not to mention that the "click" of the manual pass allows my roommate to anticipate the pass. Through balls are much easier than the previsous version i think, and I'm so happy that players can actually score without facing the goal. And I reconfirm that corners go in way too easily. Aim at the keeper, curve it out at half bar, and head the ball in at a good timing. as for masters league, i swear i'm going to fire every single one of my players the first chance i can.
too much wierd ball boucing, stupid ref judging and cheating. i stopped playing finally. it's only good when you play with your friend. it seems like the us version is the one that didn't get much appraisal in japan. i'll wait until i go back japan and get japanese version of we7 international.
I'm a poor mofo and I already own WE6. Is it worth it for me to shell out $40 for WE7? I still play the old one, will I get that much more enjoyment out of the new one?
I traded my copy of we6 for we7 at ebgames. I think I might have gotten at least $19 for we6. I do remember we7 not costing me much, out of pocket.
WE7I is definitely worth purchasing. Probably the best sports game of the year...definitely the best soccer game of the year. I've posted my review of the game, so feel free to read it if you're trying to decide on buying it or not. Winning Eleven 7 International Review (Digital Sportspage)
How do you change the ball type? I heard you can unlock it in the WE-Shop but I don't see the option for it there.
i was wondering how the u.s. is rated in the game, i have we6 and they are one of the worst national teams in the game, i was just curious what it was for this one. also, can you transfer players from club to club to keep the rosters updated? so far it sounds like i need to make this purchase.
they actually have the u.s. rated higher than the mexican team, although neither are rated very high. it seems pretty close to reality. however, i do think they underrated the speed of many u.s. players (ie convey, donovan, beasley).
